Reports on court documents described several messages on ammunition associated with the case, including a phrase interpreted as a furry-related meme and arrows interpreted as a Helldivers 2 input. Those readings explain possible online references; they do not, by themselves, establish Tyler Robinson’s motive. Robinson is accused, has pleaded not guilty, and the case was ordered to trial in September 2026.
What did the reported inscriptions say?
ABC News Australia’s September 17, 2025 account of charging documents reported inscriptions on ammunition that included “Notices Bulge, OWO What’s This?” and an arrow sequence. WIRED and other outlets discussed the cultural references observers connected to those markings. Reports describe messages on ammunition or bullet casings; that wording does not establish that every inscription was on a fired bullet.

ABC also reported that charging documents described text exchanges, campus video, recovery of a rifle, and a reported DNA match involving the weapon, ammunition, and a towel. Those are allegations and investigative details as reported from court documents, not final judicial findings.
What does “OWO” refer to?
WIRED’s September 12, 2025 explainer connected “Notices Bulge, OWO What’s This?” to a furry-related internet meme. “OwO” is an internet expression often used to convey a wide-eyed, surprised reaction; in the phrase, the wording plays on noticing a bulge. That explains why coverage described it as a furry meme with sexual innuendo. It does not establish the accused’s identity, beliefs, or motive.

#1 Best Overall
ABC reported that a message attributed to Robinson described the inscriptions as “mostly a big meme.” That is a reported message in an account of a roommate text exchange, not an official finding about what the markings meant or why they were made.
Was the arrow sequence a Helldivers 2 code?
WIRED described the arrows as resembling an input sequence associated with Helldivers 2, a video game. That is an interpretation of the reported inscription, not conclusive proof that the sequence was intended as a game reference or evidence of a particular motive. An apparent resemblance between a marking and a game input cannot, on its own, establish intent.

What do prosecutors say the inscriptions mean?
Prosecutors have argued that some of the reported markings support a political motive. In an August 19, 2026 report, the Associated Press said prosecutors argued that an engraved bullet reading “Hey Facist! CATCH!” supported their claim that Kirk was politically targeted. The defense disputed that inference. The inscription and the parties’ competing interpretations are evidence and argument in a pending case, not a ruling that establishes motive.
At a September 1, 2026 hearing, prosecutor Ryan McBride argued that Robinson shot Kirk because he disagreed with him and that firing into a crowd created a great risk of death. The AP reported that argument in connection with the defense’s challenge to whether the shooting met an aggravating element concerning risk to others. A prosecutor’s account of motive and risk is not a court finding.

What is the status of the Tyler Robinson case?
In its September 1, 2026 report, the Associated Press said Judge Tony Graf ordered the case to proceed to trial and Robinson pleaded not guilty. The case remained pending in that report; no trial verdict is established by the cited coverage. PolitiFact’s September 12, 2025 discussion likewise treated explanations of the inscriptions and their political significance as interpretations rather than settled conclusions.
