Former Below Deck camera operator Grey Duddleston and former Below Deck Sailing Yacht hair-and-makeup artist Samantha Suarez sued Gary King and production and network companies in March 2025, alleging sexual misconduct and retaliation. A judge later denied the companies’ request to force Duddleston’s claims into arbitration. That ruling addressed where his claims could proceed—not whether the allegations are true.
Who filed the lawsuit, and whom does it name?
According to a February 1, 2026 report by MyNewsLA, Suarez and Duddleston filed suit in March 2025 against King, NBCUniversal Media, Bravo Media and Mountain View Productions. The claims arise from events the plaintiffs say took place while filming Below Deck Sailing Yacht and from what they describe as the companies’ response afterward. The allegations have not been established as findings of fact.
What does Suarez allege happened?
Suarez alleges that in summer 2022, while season four of Below Deck Sailing Yacht was being filmed, she went to King’s hotel room to deliver water and snacks. She says King opened the door wearing underwear, then lunged toward and physically restrained her as she tried to leave. These are Suarez’s allegations as reported by MyNewsLA, not a court finding that the events occurred.
Suarez reportedly said she reported the encounter and King was not fired. Duddleston, her boyfriend at the time, allegedly objected after learning of what she said had happened. The report also describes Duddleston’s account of alleged conduct he said he witnessed involving other crew or cast members. Those accounts likewise remain allegations.

What did the judge decide about arbitration?
On February 1, 2026, MyNewsLA reported that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Wendy Chang denied a motion by NBCUniversal Media, Bravo Media and Mountain View Productions to compel arbitration of Duddleston’s claims. The report says the judge concluded the complaint alleged a sexual-harassment dispute covered by the federal Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act of 2021. Chang wrote: “Here, the complaint demonstrates that Duddleston alleges conduct constituting a sexual harassment dispute.”
The decision was about whether Duddleston’s claims could be forced out of court and into arbitration. It did not decide whether King or the companies were liable, nor did it establish that the alleged conduct happened.

What is known about the other claims and the case’s status?
The same report says Duddleston faced an investigation over alleged inappropriate use of the crew walkie-talkie system after reporting King’s alleged conduct. Both plaintiffs said they were later terminated. These are the plaintiffs’ accounts, as reported, rather than findings by the court.
Defendants also sought dismissal of Suarez’s claims, arguing that California was an improper forum because she lives in Georgia and the alleged conduct took place in the Mediterranean. MyNewsLA said a hearing on that request was scheduled for April 28, 2026. The available reporting here does not establish what happened at that hearing or the lawsuit’s current status as of October 4, 2026. It would therefore be inaccurate to say that the claims were dismissed—or to assert that the case remains pending—on this record.

How is this different from other Below Deck-related lawsuits?
Other cases involving people connected to the franchise are separate proceedings, not later stages of the Suarez and Duddleston lawsuit.
| Proceeding | Person or show | Question addressed | Reported result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suarez and Duddleston case | Former Below Deck crew members; Gary King and company defendants | Whether Duddleston’s claims could be compelled to arbitration | Judge Chang denied the motion to compel arbitration, according to MyNewsLA’s February 1, 2026 report; this was not a decision on liability. |
| Emile Kotze’s federal case | Kotze’s appearance in season three of Below Deck | Requests for a temporary restraining order, preliminary injunction and later reconsideration | The Southern District of New York denied the interim-relief requests in July and October 2025, as reflected in the federal docket. This is a separate case. |
| M.V. v. Bravo Media LLC | A different plaintiff; The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip | A separate civil complaint | A New York state court dismissed the amended complaint, according to the court decision. It does not decide the Below Deck claims. |
The proceedings involve different plaintiffs and different legal questions. The Kotze rulings concerned requests for emergency court orders, while the reported Suarez and Duddleston ruling concerned arbitration; none should be treated as a decision on the truth of the allegations in the others.
