An undamaged memory card was still on one of the camera’s circuit boards. It contained 12 still images and nine videos, but none came from the fatal dive.
What survived inside the recovered Titan camera?
The National Transportation Safety Board’s final report, published October 2, 2025, describes one recovered external camera. Its casing was intact, although its lens had shattered. Investigators found an undamaged memory card on a circuit board inside the camera and recovered 12 still images and nine videos from it. The report says none of the files came from dive 88, the casualty dive. The NTSB final report does not identify the card’s make, model, capacity or retail equivalent.
The camera’s depth rating is not evidence of a recording from the implosion
The camera was designed to record video and still images underwater to a rated depth of 6,000 meters (19,685 feet), according to the NTSB report. That is the camera’s stated design rating; it does not mean the camera or card remained operational at that depth, nor that the card captured the implosion or final descent.
What other electronic data did investigators recover?
The NTSB says other electronic components were found in a compressed mass. Investigators suspected the mass included a mission computer containing performance, operation and diagnostic data, but they could not recover data from those components. This unrecovered computer data is distinct from the images and videos recovered from the external camera’s card. The report does not establish that any recording of the casualty dive survived.

What did investigators say caused the Titan loss?
The camera discovery is not the NTSB’s explanation for the loss. In its investigation summary, the NTSB attributed the casualty to inadequate engineering that resulted in a carbon-fiber composite pressure vessel with inadequate strength and durability. Delamination damage and further damage of unknown origin weakened the vessel, leading to a local buckling failure. The NTSB said damage likely occurred after dive 80, with additional damage following dive 82, before fatal dive 88. The NTSB investigation summary presents those cause findings separately from the camera recovery.
Which investigation is being described?
The camera and memory-card findings above are from the NTSB’s final report, published October 2, 2025. The U.S. Coast Guard’s Marine Board of Investigation released its own report on August 5, 2025. The Coast Guard announcement says the incident occurred during a June 2023 dive to the Titanic and killed all five people aboard. These are separate agency records, not one combined report. The Coast Guard release announced its Marine Board report.
