Before his Perth appearance at Laneway Festival in February 2024, British rapper Stormzy reportedly visited Miller and Baker on Lake Street and asked for its pies. Co-owner Rachel Taylor told PerthNow that the bakery sold him four frozen beef and red wine pies and a couple of sausage rolls.
What did Stormzy buy at Miller and Baker?
PerthNow reported on 12 February 2024 that Stormzy visited the bakery “at the weekend” before his Laneway Festival appearance. According to the account from co-owner Rachel Taylor, he asked, “I heard you have the best pies in Perth”. Staff explained that the bakery was not heating pies during summer and talked him into buying four frozen pies and a couple of sausage rolls. The pies were identified as beef and red wine.
The account appeared in PerthNow’s report, which attributed the exchange to Taylor and a post from the bakery. It was not a direct interview with Stormzy or an independently verified recording of the conversation.
Why were the pies frozen?
Miller and Baker had chosen not to heat pies during summer. Its social post, reproduced in PerthNow’s 12 February 2024 story, said: “Our beef and red wine pies are available frozen every day in Summer – to bake at home.” That describes the bakery’s summer 2024 offering; it does not establish current stock or ordering options.

PerthNow’s festival coverage used the name Wellington Park, so the bakery story can be placed in the run-up to the Perth date without relying on a single venue label.

PerthNow said the bakery had verified images of Stormzy but did not publish them to protect other customers’ privacy. Its report described Miller and Baker, at the time, as a four-year-old business specialising in sourdough; Taylor also said the bakery milled its own Western Australian flour. Those details reflect the 2024 reporting and do not establish the bakery’s present locations, hours or menu.
