British TikToker Georgia Davies said dating in Australia felt frustrating because, in her experience after moving from York to Melbourne, men were less likely than men she had encountered in the UK to make the first move. Her comparison was a personal impression, not a study of dating behaviour in either country.
What Georgia Davies said about dating in Australia
In a February 2024 TikTok, Davies described dating in Australia as “just not it – at all,” according to PerthNow’s report, published 25 February 2024. She said she found Australian men attractive and liked their appearance, adding, “Give me a man with a moustache any day of the week.” Her complaint was about how they approached dating, not their looks.
Davies said she had not expected Australian men to seem so shy compared with the more confident men she had encountered in the UK. She described a perceived lack of urgency and said men often did not make the first move, which she found disappointing while single. She also characterized Australians generally as more laid-back and wished that attitude would ease when dating.
Why she found the comparison frustrating
The contrast Davies described was about initiation: she wanted men to signal interest or start a conversation more readily. Someone who prefers a slower or less direct approach may not interpret that pace as a problem, but it did not match what she said she was used to in the UK. Her remarks therefore describe a mismatch in expectations as much as a national comparison.

What the reactions can—and cannot—show
PerthNow reported a range of responses to Davies’s video. Some men who commented said they worried about rejection or wanted clearer signs that a woman was interested; some women agreed with her or shared their own dating experiences. Those comments show that viewers had differing perspectives, but comments selected from a social-media response are not a representative survey.
Is this evidence that Australian men are shyer than British men?
No. The report presents Davies’s experience and opinion, not a controlled comparison or measured finding about men in Australia and the UK. It supplies no survey, demographic breakdown or statistics on who initiates dates. Her account can explain why she found dating in Melbourne frustrating, but it cannot establish how men in either country behave as a whole.
