“Most famous” is subjective, and the available sources do not establish a definitive top seven. A 1998 newspaper report identified four celebrity supporters associated with Bristol City at the time; a separate, undated list names several more but offers no supporting evidence for those claims.
Four celebrity supporters named in a 1998 report
The strongest sourced celebrity names come from The Independent’s 4 April 1998 report, “Football: Davidson wants to put City’s name up in lights”. Its account of the club’s “star” supporters named:
- 3D, a member of Bristol music group Massive Attack.
- Grant, also a member of Massive Attack.
- Tony Robinson, the actor known as Baldrick in Blackadder.
- Jonathan Pearce, then associated with Channel 5.
This is a contemporary report of who was associated with City in 1998. It does not establish whether each person supports the club today, how often they attend matches, or how they compare in fame with other supporters.
Other names that appear in an undated list
Hillforts’ undated “Famous peoples favourites” page lists six more names under Bristol City: Jack Leach, Mark Watson, Lando Norris, Jenson Button, John Cleese and Tony Robinson. The page provides no individual evidence or explanation for those affiliations, so these names should be treated as unverified listings rather than confirmed supporters. Tony Robinson also appears in The Independent’s stronger, dated account; the additional list does not independently strengthen the other claims. John Cleese’s club association is disputed in other secondary lists, so it is particularly unsafe to present as settled fact.

#1 Best Overall
- Football Club design. Bristol Mens And Women's
- Bristol
- Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
That leaves fewer than seven people substantiated strongly enough by these sources for an unqualified list. Adding local celebrities or athletes simply because of a Bristol connection would not fill that gap: being from or linked to Bristol is not proof of support for Bristol City.
Ben Swift and the Shed End
Not every memorable supporter is a celebrity. In a 2015 BBC Sport profile, Bristol City fan Ben Swift described watching matches from the roof of his garden shed, a perch he called the “Shed End.” He recalled: “My favourite memory was when the crowd first sang ‘Shedman, Shedman – sing us a song’.” The story documents a distinctive matchday ritual and the affection it drew from other fans; it is not evidence that Swift belongs in a celebrity ranking.

Why there is no reliable top seven
Fame has no single measure here, and the cited sources do not provide a poll, ranking or comparable popularity data. They also differ in what they establish: The Independent’s article is a dated report, BBC Sport documents one supporter’s own story, and Hillforts offers an undated list without evidence for its entries. These sources support a handful of interesting names and stories—not a ranked or fully verified seven.
