It is best known as Han Solo’s ship, but Lando Calrissian owned it first.
What type of ship is the Millennium Falcon?
StarWars.com identifies the Falcon as an extensively modified Corellian light freighter and a YT-1300 space freighter. In the story, that makes it a working cargo ship whose later owners transformed it into a much faster, more heavily defended craft. [StarWars.com’s ship feature]
The Corellian designation points to the ship’s fictional origin. Corellia is known in the Star Wars galaxy for its massive shipyards, and the Falcon is identified as a Corellian craft. [StarWars.com Databank: Corellia]
Who owned and modified it?
Lando Calrissian is described as the Falcon’s first known owner. He added streamlined durasteel plating, converted the forward cargo mandibles into an auxiliary ship launch, and installed custom luxury cabins. Han Solo later won the ship from Lando and became its best-known captain. Successive owners continued modifying it, leaving a famous freighter that looks battered but is unusually capable. - Favorite starship: The Millennium Falcon from STAR WARS: A New Hope has long been one of fandom’s favorite ships. MPC presents an updated plastic model kit with improved sidewall details, radar dish and Han Solo and Chewbacca pilot figures.
- Plenty of features: The model has moving laser cannon turrets, opening entry ramp and removeable landing gear with closable doors.
- Retro flair: The kit features eye-catching box graphics from the original release in 1978, but also included additional upgrades like a larger sheet of colored panel decals. A full color decal placement guide supplies additional techniques for weathering for a realistic look.
- QUICK SPECS: 1/72 scale. 18” long. 122 parts. Injected in light gray plastic. Glue and paint required. Skill level 2, Ages 14+
Why is the Falcon famous?
Its reputation rests on both performance and history. StarWars.com describes the ship as exceptionally fast, with enhanced shielding and firepower, and credits it with helping the Rebel Alliance and New Republic win major battles, including the destruction of both Death Stars. The trade-off is a notoriously balky hyperdrive: the Falcon can be powerful and fast without being dependable on demand. These are fictional capabilities within the Star Wars story, not real spacecraft specifications. [StarWars.com Databank: Han Solo] [StarWars.com’s ship feature]

“Less than 12 parsecs” is Han Solo’s famous boast about the Kessel Run, but StarWars.com says it is unknown whether his original claim was true. It should therefore be treated as an uncertain line in the story, not a confirmed performance record for the ship. [StarWars.com Databank: Han Solo]
