She has spoken about learning more about her mental health while away, finding a treatment plan that worked for her, and still experiencing sadness or anxiety. Her reflections also explain why she chose to share her story: to be honest and retain some control over the narrative.
What Gomez has said about her progress
In a profile published by National Geographic on March 18, 2025, Gomez said, “I learned a lot about my mental health when I was away.” She described being in a healthier mindset, while making clear that difficult feelings can still arise. “I don’t have it all figured out,” she said.
That distinction matters: her account is about increased understanding and continuing effort, not a claim that sadness or anxiety has disappeared. She discussed exploring treatment, including dialectical behavior therapy, and finding a treatment plan that worked for her. She also described working to build a relationship with her emotions. These are accounts of her own experience, not recommendations for other people’s care.
Why she shared her story in My Mind & Me
Apple describes My Mind & Me as an Apple Original documentary about Gomez’s mental-health struggles and victories. In a CBS Sunday Morning interview aired December 1, 2024, she discussed why she went public with her health struggles and bipolar diagnosis in the film. In the 2025 National Geographic profile, she said she had been terrified, but wanted to be honest and keep control of the narrative.

She has also connected vulnerability with opening conversations. In the CBS listing, she put it this way: “One of the strongest things you can do is be vulnerable.” The documentary is part of that public account; it does not turn her personal experience into a template for anyone else.
How boundaries and advocacy fit into the picture
National Geographic reported that Gomez sometimes goes days or weeks without checking social media. That detail sits alongside her reflections on learning about her mental health: managing what she takes in and when is one part of how she describes looking after herself.
Rank #2
Her advocacy is also tied to her personal history. The National Geographic profile reported that the Rare Impact Fund had contributed millions of dollars across 30 organizations on five continents as of its 2025 reporting. Separately, the Associated Press reported in 2024 that Rare Beauty had pledged 1% of sales to the fund. Those figures describe what the publications reported at those dates; they should not be read as a current 2026 total or organization count.

On April 1, 2026, Spanish outlet LOS40 published a report about Gomez’s comments on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast. LOS40 reported that she discussed uncertainty around diagnosis, manic episodes, how difficult it can be to tell people to seek therapy, and the value of having someone who understands and accompanies her. This is secondary reporting, not a verified transcript, so it is best treated as additional context rather than quoted English wording.
