Henry Cavill joked that he shaved his moustache for his brief Wolverine-variant appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, and director Shawn Levy was reported to have said Cavill smoked cigars for the scene and became sick to his stomach. The moustache remark is a playful callback to Cavill’s Justice League moustache controversy; the cigar detail is a separate report about physical discomfort.
What sacrifices did Henry Cavill make for the cameo?
The moustache: a joke about his DC history
Cavill’s Instagram caption, reproduced by India Today, said: “To be safe, I shaved the moustache off for this one. Just the moustache.” It was a comic callback, not evidence of a major production sacrifice or a serious complaint about DC.

The joke points to the widely discussed Justice League reshoots: Cavill had facial hair for another production, while Superman was expected to appear clean-shaven. The moustache became a continuity problem around his return as the character.
The cigars: reported discomfort
A Yahoo search-result excerpt relaying a Hollywood Reporter report attributed a different detail to Levy: Cavill smoked cigars for the role and became sick to his stomach. The account does not establish how many cigars he smoked, for how long, or what conditions were involved, so those details should not be inferred.

- Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake yet. His days as Deadpool behind him, a listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. But when his homeworld is threatened, he reluctantly suits up as he tries to convince Wolverine? oh hell, just watch. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
What does Deadpool mean by “the studio down the street”?
In the scene, Deadpool tells Cavill’s Wolverine variant that Marvel will treat him better than “the studio down the street.” The line pokes at the DC-associated studio context of Cavill’s history as Superman. It is Deadpool’s scripted dig, distinct from Cavill’s moustache caption.
Levy characterized the casting as knowingly subversive and playful, but affectionate toward Cavill and his work. He told Variety: “He said ‘yes’ right away because he knew it would be subversive and playful. It was also with a lot of affection for him and his body of work, and playing with his legacy as a DC hero now that he’s appearing as a variant of a Marvel hero.”

Who is the “Cavillrine”?
“Cavillrine” is the credited nickname for Cavill’s Wolverine variant, combining his surname with Wolverine’s name. Levy said Ryan Reynolds coined it. Cavill’s appearance is a brief cameo, not confirmation of an ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe role. TIME’s cameo guide also identifies Cavill’s appearance in the film.
Marvel’s official film page lists the theatrical release date as July 26, 2024.

- Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprise their roles as Deadpool and Wolverine in this superhero action adventure sequel directed by Shawn Levy.
How did Zack Snyder react?
Snyder, who directed Cavill as Superman, told the Hollywood Reporter—in comments reproduced by Hindustan Times—that he had not seen the cameo but had heard about it: “Sounds fun.” Asked about Cavill’s unrealized Superman-film prospects, Snyder said Cavill was “an amazing Superman” to him and added that “it would be great to have more Henry.”
