Cohen’s representatives denied her allegations. The book has since been published, but the chapter’s contents differ by regional edition: it appears unredacted in the US edition, while UK and Australian/New Zealand editions include redactions.
What did Rebel Wilson reveal about Sacha Baron Cohen?
Wilson said on Instagram that Baron Cohen was the person she had called a “massive asshole” while teasing a chapter in her forthcoming memoir. The Guardian quoted her statement: “I will not be bullied or silenced with high priced lawyer or PR crisis managers. The ‘asshole’ that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is Sacha Baron Cohen.” The Guardian reported her announcement on March 25, 2024.

Wilson and Baron Cohen had worked together on the 2016 comedy The Brothers Grimsby, known as Grimsby in the UK. The Guardian reported that they played a married couple in the film.
How did Sacha Baron Cohen’s representatives respond?
Baron Cohen’s representatives rejected Wilson’s allegations. As quoted by The Guardian, they said: “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.”

That is the representatives’ stated position, not an independent finding. The cited reports present competing public accounts and do not independently resolve the dispute.
Why do editions of Rebel Rising differ?
The US edition was published on April 2, 2024, with the chapter unredacted. The Australian/New Zealand release was delayed and scheduled for May 8, 2024. HarperCollins Australia told The Guardian that edition would redact one chapter and include an explanatory note. In the UK edition, most of a page and additional lines were redacted; its note referred to legal differences.
Rank #2
These are publication differences, not evidence that either Wilson’s account or the denial is true. The Guardian’s April 25, 2024 report describes the UK and Australian/New Zealand redactions, and ABC News reported the US publication date and planned Australian release.
- United States: the chapter appeared without redactions.
- United Kingdom: most of a page and additional lines were redacted, with an explanatory note.
- Australia and New Zealand: the planned local edition redacted one chapter and included an explanatory note.
What is Rebel Rising about?
HarperCollins’ April 2024 catalogue describes Rebel Rising as Wilson’s memoir about her journey to Hollywood and personal life. Its listed subjects include fertility, weight, sexuality, shyness and rejection. The memoir is the direct book for readers seeking Wilson’s account; check the edition’s market and contents, since the redacted editions do not contain the same text as the US edition. HarperCollins’ catalogue lists the book.
