Shiloh now goes by Shiloh Jolie. After turning 18, she petitioned to change her full name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, and a Los Angeles court granted the request in August 2024.

What is Shiloh’s full legal name now?

Following the court’s ruling, her full legal name was reported as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. News coverage often refers to her as Shiloh Jolie. The Los Angeles Times reported the result after reviewing court documents, and the Associated Press later described her petition as successful: Los Angeles Times; Associated Press.

When did she petition, and when was it approved?

  1. May 2024: After turning 18, Shiloh filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court to change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. The Los Angeles Times reported the filing.
  2. July 2024: A legal notice appeared in the Los Angeles Times as part of the name-change process.
  3. August 2024: The court granted the petition, according to court documents reviewed by the Los Angeles Times. ABC News also reported the court’s decision.
  4. December 2024: The Associated Press referred to the petition as successfully granted.

Was the newspaper notice an announcement?

No. It was a procedural notice required under California law, not an advertisement Shiloh placed to publicize a completed name change. Her attorney, Peter Levine, told the Los Angeles Times that publication was legally required for anyone seeking a name change in California. The report also explained that publication occurred ahead of the hearing.

Why did Shiloh drop Pitt from her name?

The cited reporting does not establish a specific reason, and it does not include a detailed explanation from Shiloh herself. Levine characterized the decision as an independent choice made “following painful events,” but did not identify those events. That phrase does not establish a particular motive or assign responsibility to either parent.
