“Simulations” in this story means real-world challenge setups, not virtual reality. A March 22, 2025, Futurism article by correspondent Joe Wilkins reported that Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson had described three planned challenges involving a private jet, a jail and a gym. The report relayed the terms in Donaldson’s post; it did not establish that the challenges were completed or uploaded.
What were MrBeast’s “simulations”?
Wilkins’s Futurism headline used “simulations” to describe constructed situations in which participants would live under unusual conditions while pursuing a prize. It was not a claim that the participants were inside a virtual world. The distinction matters because Donaldson and Joe Rogan discussed immersive virtual worlds and simulation theory in a separate conversation; that discussion is unrelated to these challenge concepts.
Futurism reproduced a post attributed to Donaldson describing three proposed challenges. The article reports what the post said, rather than independently authenticating the original post or confirming that the plans came to pass.
What did the reported post say?
As quoted by Futurism, Donaldson wrote: “I have a pilot living in a $2,500,000 private jet and if he doesn’t leave for 100 days he keeps it, a cop/criminal in a jail and if they don’t leave for 100 days they win $500,000, and someone living in a gym until he loses 100 pounds for $500,000.” The post ended, “Can’t wait to upload these.”

| Scenario in the reported post | Stated condition | Stated reward |
|---|---|---|
| Pilot in a private jet | Stay for 100 days without leaving | Keep the jet, described in the post as worth $2,500,000 |
| “Cop/criminal” in a jail | Stay for 100 days without leaving | $500,000 |
| Participant in a gym | Live there until losing 100 pounds | $500,000 |
These are the terms as Futurism reported them from the post. The sources reviewed for Wilkins’s article do not establish whether any challenge was carried out or whether a video was later uploaded. The gym scenario also has a weight-loss condition rather than the fixed 100-day duration stated for the other two.
Why did the article raise an ethical concern?
Wilkins’s criticism is that the challenges risk turning people’s circumstances into entertainment, particularly when a large prize could be financially consequential to a participant. That is an ethical argument made by the article, not a verified finding about the participants’ motives or the conditions they would face.

Wilkins quotes critic Nathan J. Robinson: “It’s clear that part of the reason people are willing to undergo whatever challenges MrBeast sets is that money has the power to completely change people’s lives.” Robinson’s statement is an interpretation of the appeal of such prizes, not a study result establishing why any particular person would take part.
The question the criticism raises is not simply whether someone can leave. A participant’s formal ability to exit does not, by itself, settle whether financial pressure shapes the choice or whether the arrangement is fair. The reported post does not provide enough detail to assess safeguards, participant circumstances or the practical conditions of the challenges.

Traveling up to 20mph, your plane will spend less time on the tarmac and more time in the air. Simply connect the included micro USB cable to a charging port and plot out your next journey.
- STEM READY - Experience the aerodynamic forces that make flight possible through various wing configurations. Lift, drag, thrust, and gravity are learned first hand. Purchase the Night-Flight Kit and Accessory Kit to see how different parts create a new experience. Great for an outdoor class or exploration together with family.
Was MrBeast talking about simulation theory?
No. The Futurism headline refers to the three challenge setups. A transcript of The Joe Rogan Experience episode 2527 contains a separate discussion around 1:40–1:44 in which Donaldson and Rogan speculate about immersive virtual worlds, future headsets and simulation theory. That speculation is not evidence that such a virtual world exists, and it does not mean the jet, jail and gym challenges took place in one.
