Newly released police body-camera and cruiser recordings show Morgan Wallen denying that he threw a chair from Chief’s rooftop bar in downtown Nashville. They document the response to the April 2024 incident and Wallen’s arrest, but they do not clearly show the alleged throw itself. Wallen later pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment.
What the newly released police footage shows
The recordings, released by Metro Nashville police after an Associated Press public-records request, include cruiser-camera and officer body-camera footage. AP reported that a cruiser camera captures officers reacting to something apparently falling from above. A body-camera recording begins with a broken chair in the road near a police cruiser.

In the recordings, Wallen denies causing the incident. He tells officers, “I truly didn’t mean no harm,” and “Sorry to cause problems, I didn’t mean to,” as reported by AP from the footage. Later, in a cruiser, he says he “ain’t done nothing wrong.” A bodyguard is also heard denying that Wallen threw anything.
The released police-camera recordings do not provide a clear view of the chair being thrown. AP reported that officers discussed what they believed had happened and that a sergeant said he had watched a separate security video showing Wallen throw a chair from the roof. AP also reported that a witness told an officer she saw Wallen lift and throw the chair and laugh. Those accounts are distinct from what viewers can see in the released police footage; a police spokesperson told AP that bar security footage was not in the case files.

Why Wallen was arrested
The incident took place on April 7, 2024, at Chief’s on Broadway, a rooftop bar in downtown Nashville. A chair fell from the rooftop onto Broadway near two police officers, according to contemporaneous reporting by CBS. Police booked Wallen early on April 8 on three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
During the response, Wallen called Eric Church, a co-owner of Chief’s. AP reported that a representative for Church said Church recommended Wallen wait in a private space. The responding officer said law enforcement had to handle the matter as it would for anyone.

What happened in court
In December 2024, Wallen pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. AP reported that the sentence included seven days in a DUI education center and two years of supervised probation. His attorney said the charges would be eligible for dismissal and expungement after probation; that reported possibility does not establish that dismissal or expungement has occurred.
On April 19, 2024, Wallen posted that he was not proud of his behavior and accepted responsibility, while saying he had made amends with Nashville law enforcement, his family, and the people at Chief’s. In that social-media statement, he wrote, “I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.”
