But the available reporting does not establish 25 distinct things she buys—or a complete account of her current spending. The examples below distinguish Carey’s own comments from journalists’ reports, and purchases from gifts, rentals, inherited belongings and temporary charters.
Does Mariah Carey collect jewelry?
Yes. Carey described herself as a jewelry collector in a 2022 Vogue interview, while also saying she had stopped buying jewelry for herself “a little while ago.” Her existing jewelry case was full, she said, and she needed a new one. That is a direct account of a collection and its storage—not evidence of an ongoing buying spree.
Vogue also reported that Carey collaborated with Chopard on two butterfly-themed jewelry collections. The 2022 launch included diamond-paved evening pieces, such as a butterfly necklace and ring and angel-wing earrings, as well as a separate day-to-day butterfly collection. Vogue described pieces in 18-karat Fairmined-certified white gold. These are launch details from 2022; the article does not establish whether the pieces remain available.
What designer shoes and fashion are associated with Carey?
In a 2017 Vogue closet tour, Carey showed an expansive wardrobe and a substantial shoe collection. The tour named Christian Louboutin, Giuseppe Zanotti and Manolo Blahnik among the designers represented. It also featured lingerie and handbags, including a Birkin bag that the article said was a gift from Floyd Mayweather. The tour documents what was shown and discussed at that time; it does not establish the current contents of her wardrobe or the prices of individual pieces.

What homes has Carey discussed or been reported to have?
A home as security
Carey told The Guardian in 2009 that, when she and her then-husband were moving into a house, she wanted to pay half. She connected that choice to growing up feeling she owned nothing and not wanting to feel she could be kicked out. Her comment offers a personal reason for wanting a stake in a home, rather than a general account of her property spending.
Reported properties and decor
A 2016 Vanity Fair account said Carey owned a New York triplex bought for a reported $9 million in 1999, and reported a Calabasas rental at $250,000 a month. These are period figures from that account, not current prices or proof of present ownership or residence.
A 2020 Guardian interview discussing Carey’s memoir described a mansion as a $30 million home. Carey’s memoir, quoted in the interview, gives a glimpse of her taste: “Though by no stretch do I like a rustic look, I do have a preference for tumbled marble on my kitchen floors.” The quote is about decor preference; it does not establish what she currently owns.
What luxury travel has been reported?
Vanity Fair’s 2016 account described travel tied to Carey’s touring schedule, including private-jet use, hotel stays and a yacht charter. It reported a yacht price of $340,000 per week, along with fuel and crew costs. That is a historical reported charter figure, not a current quote, and a charter is a temporary rental rather than an owned yacht. The same article’s descriptions of hotels and travel reflect its reporting at the time, not Carey’s current arrangements.

What is known about Carey’s car?
Carey told The Guardian in 2009 that she had inherited her father’s “Porsche from 1937 or something” and was fixing it up. This is a story about a family inheritance and restoration, not evidence that she bought a new luxury car or a measure of her current car spending.
Quick Recap
Which claims about Carey’s spending should be treated cautiously?
- Reported prices are not a full spending ledger. The yacht, rental and property figures above come from a 2016 article and describe specific historical examples.
- Gifts are not purchases by Carey. The 2017 Vogue closet tour identified the Birkin bag it showed as a gift.
- Rentals and charters are not owned assets. A rented home or chartered yacht shows temporary use, not ownership.
- A flower-spending story should not be repeated as fact. Vanity Fair attributed a claim of $100,000 a month for exotic flowers to an Australian tabloid and noted the outlet’s poor reliability and that Carey and other stars had called it out for lying.
- “Humble” is a characterization, not an established fact. These sources document some interests and reported possessions, but do not prove a particular personality trait or provide a complete, current accounting of Carey’s finances.
