The official documents cover narrower groups—U.S. production cast and crew, and Disney Parks cast members—while former Disney Channel performer Christy Carlson Romano describes the press guidance she recalls receiving. Those sources do not establish a list of rules that named stars broke.
What Romano recalls from Disney press training
In an excerpt from her memoir, former Even Stevens performer Christy Carlson Romano recalls being told before press training: “You’ll get a rundown of Disney rules and codes of conduct, things you can and cannot say.” The excerpt does not identify the executive who said it, and it documents Romano’s experience rather than a policy applicable to every performer.

Romano recalls being told to keep public remarks positive, avoid profanity, and not speak negatively about other Disney shows or people. She summarizes the instruction this way: “We’ve been instructed to be upbeat and happy. To ‘keep it positive.’” These are recollections of training she experienced, not a published, company-wide rulebook. Marie Claire’s October 6, 2026 excerpt is the source for her account.
What Disney’s current production policy actually covers
The Walt Disney Company’s U.S. Production Cast and Crew Policy Manual, labeled July 2024 and updated in March 2026, applies to production cast and crew in the United States. Its online-conduct guidance says covered people must follow company and production policies when using company platforms or engaging online in ways related to company or production business.
#1 Best Overall
The manual directs covered cast and crew to protect confidential production information. Examples include unreleased materials, filming locations, schedules, plot points, and guest stars; it also addresses livestreaming on set and use of company-related social accounts. This is a documented rule set for its stated production scope—not evidence of rules governing every Disney Channel actor, former performer, or private social-media activity. Read the U.S. Production Cast and Crew Policy Manual.
Why the Disney Look is not a celebrity dress code
Disney Careers describes the Disney Look as appearance guidance for costumed and non-costumed Disney Parks cast members. The page presents it as an inclusive standard for a clean, polished, approachable appearance, connected to brand representation and guest experience. That establishes guidance for a defined employee group; it does not establish what Disney Channel celebrities must wear. Disney Careers: The Disney Look.

What historical coverage can—and cannot—show
TIME’s 2009 reporting described a Disney Channel youth-star pipeline in which television roles could connect with recording contracts, radio play, soundtracks, tours, and merchandise. It also discussed the wholesome public image associated with young performers. Talent manager Frederick Levy, author of Acting in Young Hollywood, offered commentary on purity rings and their place in a star’s image. That is historical reporting and attributed interpretation, not proof that Disney required performers to wear rings or follow a specific list of conduct rules. TIME’s 2009 report.
D23 identifies Hannah Montana as a Disney Channel series that premiered in 2006 and includes Miley Cyrus reflecting on the show’s importance to her. It supplies franchise context, but does not establish that Cyrus—or any other performer—broke a specific rule. D23’s 2026 feature on Hannah Montana.

How to read claims that a Disney star “broke the rules”
A rule-breaking claim needs evidence for both parts: an identifiable rule that applied to that performer and a sourced account of the performer’s action. The sources above do not substantiate 25 such cases. They instead document a former performer’s personal recollections, current policy for a specifically defined production group, Parks appearance guidance, and historical reporting about image-making.
