Why did he describe it as a tough year?
Herbstreit was explaining the emotion he showed after calling Ohio State’s College Football Playoff national championship victory over Notre Dame. The day after the game, he said, “It’s been a tough year for me behind the scenes.” He spoke about his wife’s diagnosis alongside the death of the family dog, Ben, and his son Zak’s earlier heart failure. Fox News summarized his remarks; the transcript records the full “tough year” sentence.
Is there a more recent health update?
The sources reviewed establish Herbstreit’s January 2025 disclosure, but do not report his wife’s cancer stage, treatment, prognosis, or a subsequent medical status update. His description of a “tough year” explains the personal circumstances he shared at the time; it should not be read as confirmation of her current condition.
