Simpson’s family announced his death. Kaelin offered condolences to Simpson’s children, expressed compassion for Fred and Kim Goldman, and remembered Nicole Brown Simpson.
What did Kato Kaelin say?
In a statement attributed to Kaelin on Instagram by The Associated Press, he said:
“Foremost, I’d like to express my condolences to the children, to Sydney and Justin, to Jason and Arnelle. They lost their father, and that is never easy. I wish to express my love and compassion to the Goldmans, to Fred and to Kim. I hope you find closure. And finally, to the family of the beautiful Nicole Brown Simpson, may we always cherish her memories. Nicole was a beacon of light that burned bright, and may we never forget her.”
The statement addressed several people affected by Simpson’s death: his children, the Goldman family, and Nicole Brown Simpson’s family. Kaelin’s words paired condolences for Simpson’s children with support for the Goldmans and a tribute to Nicole.

When did he respond?
Simpson’s family announced his death on April 11, 2024. The Associated Press reported that he had died the previous day, April 10, at age 76, of prostate cancer. Kaelin’s reaction was reported on April 11. Entertainment Tonight said he shared a video statement on X that Thursday, while AP attributed the quoted statement to Kaelin on Instagram. CNN also carried his remarks in an April 11 transcript. Those accounts identify the response, but differ on platform attribution; the exact statement is reproduced here as AP reported it.
Why was Kaelin connected to Simpson?
Kaelin was staying in a guesthouse on Simpson’s property during the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, and he testified at Simpson’s criminal trial. CNN described him as Simpson’s houseguest. That connection helps explain why his response drew attention, while the statement itself focused on the people and families affected by the deaths.
How did the criminal and civil cases end?
The legal outcomes were separate. Simpson was acquitted of the criminal charges in 1995. In 1997, a civil jury found him liable for the deaths and ordered him to pay $33.5 million to relatives of Brown and Goldman, as reported by AP. The civil finding was not a criminal conviction.

AP also reported remarks from two people closely connected to the case. Attorney Gloria Allred, who once represented Nicole’s family, told ABC News: “I feel that the system failed Nicole Brown Simpson and failed battered women everywhere. I don’t mourn for O.J. Simpson. I do mourn for Nicole Brown Simpson and her family and they should be remembered.”

It’s no great loss to the world. It’s a further reminder of Ron’s being gone.” These comments were distinct from Kaelin’s statement, which offered condolences and remembrance rather than a broader assessment of Simpson or the case.
