Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson reunited onscreen in Happy Hours, a romantic drama Holmes wrote and directed that had its world premiere at the 2026 Tribeca Festival. It is the first film in a trilogy announced as a plan; the other two installments are not confirmed as made.
What is Happy Hours about?
The film follows Liz, a freshly divorced photographer, and Andrew McCloud, her high-school boyfriend, now a travel writer. Years after their relationship ended without closure, a work assignment brings Liz back into Andrew’s life: she photographs him, and the former couple begin talking through old wounds as their connection returns. Liz’s decision about whether to love again sits at the story’s center.
Tribeca describes it as a New York City romantic drama. This is a new story—not a Dawson’s Creek revival.
Who is in the film?
Holmes wrote and directed Happy Hours and plays Liz. Jackson plays Andrew. The Tribeca Festival archive also lists Mary-Louise Parker, Joe Tippett, Constance Wu, John McGinty, Jack Martin, Johnna Dias-Watson, Donald Webber Jr. and Chloë Kerwin among the cast. Tribeca’s film listing credits the feature and identifies its cast.

When did it premiere, and how long is it?
Happy Hours had its world premiere at the 2026 Tribeca Festival, as identified in the festival’s April 16, 2026 lineup announcement. Tribeca’s archive lists the film as a 90-minute United States feature in the Spotlight Narrative section, categorized as Drama / New York / Romance. The runtime and classifications are the festival’s listing details.
A festival premiere does not establish a consumer release. The sources reviewed do not identify a distributor, streaming service, or public release date, so there is no confirmed viewing option or schedule to report.

Are the other two films in the trilogy confirmed?
No. When Happy Hours was announced in July 2025, the project was described as the first part of a planned trilogy. That announcement set out an intention, not proof that all three films were produced. In March 2026, Jackson said he hoped the team would get the chance to make the other two, according to E! News.
No reviewed source confirms production, release dates, or completion of the second and third installments. The current confirmed milestone is the first film’s Tribeca world premiere; the continuation remains conditional.

How the project was announced
TheWrap’s July 21, 2025 report said Holmes would write, direct and star opposite Jackson, with production on the first film expected to begin that summer and later films to follow. That is the announcement-era plan; it should not be read as confirmation that the sequels went into production.
