In a video posted around 31 December 2024, Kate Beckinsale described alleged abuse and mistreatment she said she experienced across her film career. She said she spoke after public discussion of Blake Lively’s legal filing against It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni drew attention to what can happen when women complain about harmful conduct. Beckinsale’s account is her recollection; the news reports do not establish the incidents as independently verified findings.

What Beckinsale said happened on film sets

Beckinsale described multiple experiences, not one isolated incident. She said that when she was 18, a trusted crew member touched her without consent, and that two actresses she approached denied her report. ABC News quoted her saying: “I was actually, at the age of 18, felt up by somebody that I really trusted on a crew.” ABC News (Australia), 1 January 2025; The Guardian, 31 December 2024.

She also recalled unsafe fight sequences in separate films. Beckinsale said an injury was supported by MRI scans, and that after she raised concerns she was blamed and ostracised. Those are her reported experiences, rather than findings established by an investigation described in the coverage.

Other workplace pressures she recalled

  • She said she was insulted and pressured about her appearance, including restrictive dieting and exercise that she said caused her to stop menstruating.
  • She recalled being required to do a photoshoot the day after a miscarriage.
  • She described a co-star’s delays during filming as affecting her ability to see her daughter.

Beckinsale framed these examples as part of a broader pattern of workplace mistreatment and of not being believed when she raised concerns.

Why she spoke about it in late 2024

Beckinsale connected her decision to speak with the response to Blake Lively’s legal filing involving Baldoni. She said the discussion highlighted a “machine” that activates when women complain about offensive or harmful conduct. The Guardian reported that Baldoni denied Lively’s allegations. That separate legal dispute does not establish the truth of Beckinsale’s personal account, and her account does not determine the merits of Lively’s allegations.

In a caption quoted by ABC News, Beckinsale wrote: “Complaining about abuse should not beget more abuse, particularly at work where there should be inviolable safeguarding in place.”

How her earlier Harvey Weinstein account differs

Beckinsale’s 2020 account concerned an alleged confrontation after the 2001 premiere of Serendipity, not the range of film-set experiences she described in her late-2024 video. She said Weinstein berated her for wearing a white suit rather than a tight dress and that she felt punished after saying no to him over time. The Los Angeles Times reported her recollection in March 2020; it should be distinguished from the outcomes of Weinstein’s criminal cases.

In the same Instagram statement, Beckinsale said: “Hearing that he has gone to prison for 23 years is a huge relief to me on behalf of all the women he sexually assaulted or raped, and I hope will be a deterrent to that sort of behavior in this and any other industry.” Los Angeles Times, 12 March 2020.

What the accounts establish—and what they do not

The late-2024 video, as reported by ABC News and The Guardian, records Beckinsale’s own recollections of unwanted touching, unsafe sequences, appearance pressure, and consequences she said followed speaking up. The coverage does not independently verify those incidents or report an adjudication of them. Her phrase “47 million stories” is rhetorical, not a measured statistic. The Weinstein story is a separate account about an alleged encounter in 2001, reported in 2020.
