In a special Daily Show episode that aired April 28, 2025, Jon Stewart used Donald Trump’s first 100 days back in office to criticize his claims of success, his approach to tariffs and negotiations, and his use of presidential power. Stewart’s closing “Donald, STOP!” was a warning about public leverage and constitutional government—not just a punchline.

Which Jon Stewart segment was this?

The remarks came in a special Daily Show episode titled “President Trump’s Second First 100 Days: An Incredible 100 Days With Zero Disturbance.” Stewart appeared with a long white beard, joked about being tired, and took aim at Trump’s claim that his first 100 days were “the most successful 100 days in the history of our country,” as quoted in Rolling Stone’s April 29 recap. The official Paramount+ program listing identifies the show and its first-100-days coverage.

What did Stewart say about Trump’s first 100 days?

Stewart’s monologue ranged across immigration, tariffs, negotiations and the administration’s exercise of power. Contemporary coverage also describes references to DOGE, the economy, China and Russia. Rolling Stone and TheWrap characterize the segment as a critique of Trump’s claimed negotiating skill; those are descriptions of Stewart’s argument, not independent findings about policy outcomes.

A central point was that political leverage belongs to the public, not to a president personally. The Daily Beast reproduces Stewart saying, “You don’t have the leverage! That’s the key misunderstanding here! Trump is so arrogant, he thinks the leverage is his. It’s ours! We the people!” The Daily Beast’s account connects that claim to Stewart’s closing argument about the country’s constitutional tradition and rule of law.

Why did Stewart say “Donald, stop”?

The phrase was the endpoint of the monologue’s argument: Stewart said Trump was squandering leverage held by the public and putting a constitutional republic and the rule of law at risk. The Daily Beast quotes Stewart’s conclusion: “It took the people 250 years of striving to live up to a constitutional republic and rule of law, painstaking equity that you are squandering.” Rolling Stone identifies “Donald, STOP!” as the segment’s closing appeal.

That warning is political commentary delivered through satire, not a neutral audit of the administration. The distinction matters: Stewart’s interpretation of Trump’s conduct and its consequences is his argument; claims about what a policy did, or what happened during a given period, can be checked against records and independent reporting.

How to check claims raised in the segment

FactCheck.org’s April 29, 2025 review assessed selected campaign promises and contextual claims at the 100-day mark. It does not evaluate every statement in Stewart’s monologue, so it is a starting point rather than a complete fact-check of the segment.

For example, when considering tariff claims, keep the payer clear: tariffs are paid by U.S. importers, not directly by foreign countries. For any claim about immigration, negotiations or another policy, identify who made the claim, the issue and timeframe it covers, and what independent evidence supports it. A clip shown in a comedy segment may illustrate an argument, but it does not by itself establish the full context or outcome.

Where to watch and what the record establishes

Paramount+’s program listing for The Daily Show is an official place to identify the program and its first-100-days coverage. Current viewing access can vary by region and over time; the available reporting and listing do not establish present availability everywhere. Contemporary recaps reproduce selected lines, not a complete official transcript, so longer quotations or exact surrounding wording should be checked against the episode itself.
