On Celebrity Big Brother, JoJo Siwa told fellow contestant Danny Beard that she now described herself as queer rather than lesbian. The conversation aired on 22 April 2025. It came after an earlier exchange with Mickey Rourke about her sexuality, but the available reporting does not connect Siwa’s identity statement to Rourke’s later departure from the show.
What did JoJo Siwa tell Danny Beard?
In a conversation with Danny Beard on the 22 April 2025 episode, Siwa said the experience had made her feel queer. She explained that she had previously called herself a lesbian, then realized, “Oh, I’m not a lesbian, I’m queer.” The Independent reported her words on 24 April 2025.

She also joked, “I’m switching letters! F*** the L, I’m going to the Q,” referring to the LGBTQ abbreviation. These were Siwa’s words about her own identity; they were not a label assigned to her by the show or by this article.
What happened in the earlier exchange with Mickey Rourke?
ITV reported that during the 9 April episode, Rourke asked Siwa whether she liked girls or boys. Siwa said she liked girls and that her partner was non-binary. Rourke replied, “If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay any more.” Siwa answered, “I can guarantee I’ll still be gay and I’ll still be in a very happy relationship.”

Later, after Rourke said he would “vote the lesbian out,” Siwa called the reasoning homophobic. Big Brother gave Rourke a formal warning, telling him “your language was offensive and unacceptable.” Siwa later nominated him for eviction, according to ITV’s 10 April report.

The reports establish a sequence, not a cause. Siwa’s conversation with Beard about calling herself queer aired on 22 April. Rourke left later, after what ITV described as “further use of inappropriate language” and “unacceptable behaviour” toward other contestants, according to The Guardian’s 2 June 2025 interview with Siwa.

That interview does not say Siwa’s conversation with Beard prompted Rourke’s departure. Siwa told The Guardian she believed Rourke should have been given a chance after the initial incident, and reflected of that moment, “As it was happening, I just froze.”
