On March 2, 2026, Jimmy Kimmel revisited Donald Trump’s past warnings that Barack Obama would start a war with Iran, then contrasted them with Trump’s own military action against Iran. Kimmel also joked that the operation should be called “Operation Epsteino Distracto,” a satirical suggestion about motive—not evidence of why the administration acted.
What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Trump and Iran?
In his March 2 monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel drew attention to the gap between Trump’s earlier criticism of Obama and Trump’s later use of military force against Iran. TheWrap reported that Kimmel recalled once being surprised Trump had not gotten the United States into a war, then cited Trump’s 2011 accusation that Obama would “start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate.” TheWrap’s report attributes that wording to Trump, as recalled by Kimmel; it is not a line Kimmel originated.
Kimmel also invoked Trump’s promises to prevent World War III and lead peacefully. TheWrap’s account describes the central contrast, but does not provide a complete list of every earlier Trump statement or the full original context for the 2011 comment.
What was “Operation Epsteino Distracto”?
Kimmel used “Operation Epsteino Distracto” as a comic name for the Iran operation, implying it could distract from the Epstein files. That was Kimmel’s satirical allegation. The joke does not verify a government motive, and the reporting cited here does not establish one.

When was the monologue, and what came later?
The segment at issue aired on Monday, March 2, 2026. TheWrap reported that Jimmy Kimmel Live! aired weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC. A separate official show YouTube listing dated March 4 describes an episode discussing conflicting explanations of the Iran attack and whether it was a war; that listing is adjacent program context, not a transcript or proof of what Kimmel said on March 2.
Kimmel returned to the subject in later programs. In a March 17 roundup, The Guardian quoted him responding to Trump’s “When I feel it. When I feel it in my bones” remark: “That’s the problem: he uses his bones to feel things instead of his brain.” That was a separate, later joke—not part of the March 2 monologue. The Guardian’s March 17 roundup covers those later remarks.
