The “big cameo” is a Season 2, Episode 6 scene in which Rick Flag Sr. makes a deal with imprisoned Lex Luthor: Flag offers to move him from Belle Reve to Van Kull if Luthor helps find Peacemaker’s portal. James Gunn reportedly called the exchange important to both Peacemaker and the wider DCU. Its immediate story implications are clear; what it will mean for future films or series is not yet confirmed.
Which Peacemaker scene is James Gunn talking about?
The scene appears in “Ignorance is Chris,” the sixth episode of Peacemaker Season 2. Rick Flag Sr. tells Sasha Bordeaux that he has teamed up with Lex Luthor after arranging a transfer for the imprisoned villain. SlashFilm’s October 2, 2025 report identifies this as the moment Gunn described as important to the series and the DCU.
What is the deal between Rick Flag Sr. and Lex Luthor?
Flag offers to move Luthor from Belle Reve, a prison that holds metahumans, to Van Kull, a prison without them. In return, Luthor is to help locate the portal associated with Peacemaker. The exchange gives Luthor a concrete incentive to cooperate, while placing Flag Sr. in an uneasy alliance with one of the DCU’s most dangerous figures.
According to the passage reproduced by SlashFilm from the official Peacemaker podcast, Gunn characterized the scene as significant because Flag, the head of A.R.G.U.S., strikes the deal and then tells Sasha Bordeaux that he has teamed up with Luthor. The wording here is a paraphrase: the podcast recording was not available to verify the reproduced statement as a direct quotation.

Why does the cameo matter beyond this episode?
The deal ties Peacemaker’s portal storyline to Luthor and Flag Sr., so it functions as more than a cameo: it connects characters and plot threads within the DCU. Variety’s July 11, 2025 overview of the DCU’s heroes places Flag Sr. in the franchise context through Creature Commandos, while Peacemaker Season 2 belongs to the rebooted DCU era around Superman.
That connection makes future consequences plausible, but the scene alone does not establish what Luthor will discover, whether the transfer will happen as planned, or how the alliance will affect later stories. Those outcomes should be treated as open plot questions rather than confirmed setup for a specific film or series.
