YouTube Super Thanks lets viewers make a one-time payment on eligible public videos and Shorts. In return, the viewer sees a temporary animation and can publish a distinctive, customizable comment; the creator receives a share of the revenue recognized by Google.
It is available only to eligible creators and uploads. Here is how Super Thanks works, who can use it, how to turn it on, and what to check when the button is missing.
What is YouTube Super Thanks?
Super Thanks is YouTube’s fan-funding feature for uploaded content. A viewer chooses an amount, completes a purchase, and can add a public comment to an eligible long-form video or Short.

The viewer receives two main benefits:
- A temporary animation visible to the purchaser.
- A colorful, customizable public comment with a visual indicator that distinguishes it from ordinary comments.
The payment is one-time. Super Thanks is not a recurring membership, a live-chat feature, a crowdfunding campaign, or a charitable donation. YouTube says it is not a crowdfunding or donation tool. See YouTube’s Super Thanks eligibility guidance.

Super Thanks is therefore most useful for viewers who want to support a particular piece of content without committing to a monthly membership. More details about YouTube’s monetization features are available in YouTube’s monetization overview.
How viewers use Super Thanks
- Open an eligible long-form video or Short.
- Select the Super Thanks button below the video.
- Choose an amount using the available options or slider.
- Customize the comment, if desired.
- Select Buy and send, then complete the payment process.
The purchase amount and comment are public. The viewer’s channel name and profile image may also be visible. YouTube says this information may be available through its Data API and may be shared by the channel with third-party services. Viewers should avoid including private information in a Super Thanks comment.
A viewer can generally purchase Super Thanks more than once on the same video, subject to regional limits. YouTube describes general limits of up to $500 per day or $2,000 per week, or the local-currency equivalent, across applicable Super Chats, Super Stickers, Super Thanks, and Gifts. Limits can vary by country or region.

Super Thanks payments are generally voluntary and non-refundable. If a creator or YouTube removes or moderates the comment, the purchase ordinarily does not qualify for a refund. See YouTube’s viewer help page.
Who can enable Super Thanks?
Super Thanks is part of YouTube’s monetization and fan-funding system. A channel generally needs to be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program and meet the requirements for fan-funding features.
YouTube’s current monetization documentation describes lower-level YPP fan-funding eligibility using these thresholds:
- 500 subscribers.
- Three public uploads in the previous 90 days.
- Either 3,000 public long-form watch hours in the previous 365 days or 3 million public Shorts views in the previous 90 days.
These are YPP and fan-funding thresholds, not a guarantee that every channel meeting them will immediately receive Super Thanks. Eligibility can also depend on location, policy compliance, account status, content type, and YouTube’s review of the channel.

Before enabling the feature, check that:
- You generally meet the applicable age requirement of 18 or older.
- You live in a country or region where Super Thanks is available.
- You and, where applicable, your multichannel network accept YouTube’s terms and policies.
- You have accepted the Commerce Product Module (CPM).
- Your channel is not set as Made for Kids and does not contain a significant amount of Made for Kids or otherwise ineligible content.
- You are not excluded by a music-rights arrangement, including certain channels subject to an SRAV contract.
Availability lists can change and may differ between localized YouTube help pages. Check the live eligibility page while signed in to YouTube Studio rather than relying on an old country list. The United States is currently listed as supported in YouTube’s official documentation.
How to enable Super Thanks on desktop
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Earn from the left-hand menu.
- Open the Supers tab.
- Select Get started.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Review and accept the Commerce Product Module if YouTube asks you to do so.
- Turn on the Super Thanks switch.
When setup is complete, the Supers area should show Super Thanks as enabled. The feature should then be available on qualifying past and future long-form videos and Shorts. Enabling it at channel level does not override restrictions on individual uploads.
YouTube Studio labels can move as the interface changes. If the exact wording differs, look under Earn for Supers and Super Thanks.
How to enable Super Thanks in the YouTube Studio mobile app
- Open the YouTube Studio app.
- Tap Earn at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the Supers card.
- If necessary, open the Supers section and tap Get started, then Turn on.
- Complete the Commerce Product Module acceptance flow if prompted.
On mobile, enabling Supers may expose more than one product: Super Thanks for long-form videos and Shorts, and Super Chat or Super Stickers for live streams and Premieres. These products have different uses; turning on Supers does not make Super Thanks available on live chat.

Which videos can receive Super Thanks?
A channel can be eligible while a particular upload is not. The main distinction is between channel-level eligibility and video-level eligibility.

An archived live stream may become eligible afterward if it otherwise meets the requirements. The Super Thanks button will not necessarily appear on every upload simply because the channel switch is on.

This is not necessarily 70% of the price displayed to the viewer. Taxes, currency conversion, regional pricing, and applicable iOS App Store fees can affect the recognized amount. YouTube says it currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees.
There is no fixed dollar amount per Super Thanks that creators should promise or forecast. Earnings depend on viewers’ voluntary purchases and the amount recognized for each transaction.
Super Thanks revenue is paid through the creator’s normal AdSense for YouTube payment process. Creators remain responsible for their own applicable tax and legal obligations. A Super Thanks payment should not be described as tax-free income or as a charitable donation.
Where to view Super Thanks earnings
- Open YouTube Analytics.
- Select Revenue.
- Open the How you make money card.
- Select Supers.
Reporting may take time to reflect finalized revenue. Use the revenue recognized by Google—not the viewer’s displayed purchase price—as the basis for understanding the creator share.
How to find and manage Super Thanks comments
To identify supporters, open the Comments section in YouTube Studio or the YouTube Studio mobile app and apply the From Super Thanks filter.
Creators can then:
- Reply publicly.
- Heart the comment.
- Remove the comment when it violates channel rules or YouTube’s Community Guidelines.
Super Thanks comments should be moderated like any other comments. A payment can be acknowledged, but it should not imply that the buyer is guaranteed a reply, special treatment, private access, or a favorable decision. YouTube can restrict or terminate access to fan-funding tools when it detects abuse or fraud.

The Supers tab is missing
Check these channel-level issues:
- The channel has not been accepted into YPP or does not have fan-funding access.
- The applicable YPP review or monetization setup is incomplete.
- The Commerce Product Module has not been accepted.
- The creator’s location is not supported.
- The account or channel has a policy restriction.
- The channel is Made for Kids or contains substantial ineligible content.
- An MCN or rights administrator controls monetization settings.
- You are using an outdated or different YouTube Studio interface.
YouTube says the Supers tab appears only when the channel is eligible. If an MCN manages the channel, check with the network before changing monetization settings.

The button is missing from one video
Review the upload itself. Super Thanks may be unavailable if the video or Short is:

- Made for Kids.
- Age-restricted.
- Subject to a Content ID claim.
- Associated with a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
- A live stream or Premiere that is still live.
- A long-form video with comments disabled.
If other qualifying uploads show the button, the problem is likely video-level rather than a channel-wide failure.
A viewer cannot complete a purchase
The viewer should check whether the purchase exceeds regional daily or weekly limits, whether the payment method is supported, and whether the video is still eligible. A removed comment generally does not trigger a refund because Super Thanks payments are voluntary and ordinarily non-refundable.
Is Super Thanks worth enabling?
For an eligible creator, Super Thanks is a useful supplementary revenue option because it works on evergreen videos and Shorts rather than only during live broadcasts. The public comment also gives creators a visible way to recognize viewers who particularly appreciate a piece of content.
It is not predictable income, however. Purchases are voluntary, the creator share is calculated after specified deductions, and the feature may be unavailable on individual uploads. Treat it as an additional option alongside ads, memberships, sponsorships, and other creator revenue—not as a replacement for them.
