The six-season crime drama is Animal Kingdom. It follows Joshua “J” Cody as he joins his estranged grandmother’s family after his mother dies—and becomes entangled in their criminal life. TNT identified season six as the series’ final season.
What is Animal Kingdom about?
Netflix’s synopsis centers on Joshua “J” Cody, who moves into his estranged grandmother’s seaside home after his mother’s death. There, he becomes involved in the Cody family’s life of crime. The premise combines family drama with criminal activity; it is not the detective-led story described in some accounts of the series.

Netflix’s title page lists six seasons and names Ellen Barkin, Scott Speedman, and Shawn Hatosy among the stars. Netflix displayed a TV-MA rating on that page when checked for this article; ratings and catalog listings can differ by territory, so check the local title page.
Is it a complete series?
Yes. TNT announced that season six would be the final season, and said it premiered June 19, 2022. The network’s final-season announcement describes the Cody family facing the consequences of its past, with an expanding criminal empire and a cold-case investigation putting the family in jeopardy.

TNT’s final-season cast context also names Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Finn Cole, and Leila George. The network’s season description and cast list provide useful orientation, but they are promotional material rather than independent assessments of the show.
Is Animal Kingdom underrated?
“Underrated” is a matter of opinion, and the available audience figures do not establish how many people have seen the series or whether it is overlooked. In its 2021 renewal announcement, TNT said season four had reached 27 million viewers across all platforms. That is the network’s promotional figure for that season, not an independent measure of the show’s popularity. TNT also said the series ranked among 2019’s top 10 cable dramas for adults 18–49 in Live+7 on ad-supported cable.

For a viewer choosing what to watch, the more concrete appeal is a completed six-season story built around a family crime premise. Whether it suits you depends on whether that mix interests you—and whether Netflix currently carries it where you live.

Check the Netflix title page for availability in your region; a listing in one market does not guarantee access in another. A Best Buy listing confirms a DVD release for Animal Kingdom: Season 6, but that is the final season only, not a complete-series set. Check the retailer’s current listing and disc compatibility before buying.
