Peacock is NBCUniversal’s U.S.-focused streaming service for on-demand TV, movies, Peacock Originals, live sports, news, live events, and always-on channels. It is a separate subscription service—not simply a login for NBC or other NBCUniversal network apps.
What is Peacock?
Peacock is an internet-delivered streaming platform operated by NBCUniversal, which is part of Comcast. It launched as NBCUniversal’s streaming service in 2020 and brings much of the company’s entertainment, news, sports, and film ecosystem into one service.
Unlike a traditional cable package, Peacock is primarily an on-demand service. You choose a program from its library, or select from live events and curated channels that stream continuously over the internet.
Peacock is also separate from the individual NBCUniversal network apps, including NBC, Bravo, USA, SYFY, E!, Oxygen, and Telemundo. A Peacock subscription does not automatically act as a participating cable or satellite TV-provider login for those apps. Eligible programming should be watched inside Peacock unless the relevant network specifically says otherwise. NBC explains the distinction here.

What can you watch on Peacock?
The exact catalog changes as licensing agreements and release windows change, so it is more useful to understand Peacock’s content categories than to rely on a permanent list of titles.
Television
Peacock carries current and library programming associated with NBC, Bravo, Telemundo, and other NBCUniversal brands. That includes scripted shows, reality programs, news and pop-culture programming, syndicated television, and selected catalog series.
Availability varies by title and plan. Select, for example, is not the full television catalog because it excludes movies, sports, and Peacock Originals.

Peacock includes films from Universal and other licensed sources, although the movie lineup changes regularly. A film associated with Universal is not necessarily available on Peacock indefinitely, and some titles may be available elsewhere only to rent or purchase rather than stream as part of a subscription.
Peacock Originals
Peacock Originals include exclusive series, specials, documentaries, and other programs produced or commissioned for the service. These are part of the broader Premium proposition, but they are excluded from the Select tier.
Sports and live events
Live sports and events are among Peacock’s main differences from many general entertainment streaming services. Depending on current rights agreements and the event, Peacock may offer live games, sports channels, highlights, documentaries, and on-demand replays.
Availability is event-specific. A Peacock subscription does not guarantee access to every NBCUniversal sport, every game, or every matchup in every location. Regional and territorial restrictions can apply, including MLB blackout rules. Peacock’s sports page lists current sports information and blackout qualifications.
News and Peacock Channels
Peacock also offers news, pop-culture programming, kids’ content, and always-on Peacock Channels. These channels are curated continuous streams organized around genres, franchises, or programming themes. They should not be confused with a complete traditional cable lineup or with access to every local NBC station.

How much does Peacock cost?
The following prices were checked on August 18, 2026. Prices, plan names, promotional offers, and inclusions can change, so confirm the current details on Peacock’s official plan page before subscribing.

Annual billing costs less than paying the monthly price for 12 months, but it also commits you for longer. Monthly billing can be more practical if you subscribe only during a particular sports season or show release.

What is the difference between Select, Premium, and Premium Plus?
Peacock Select
Select is designed for viewers who mainly want selected NBC, Bravo, and related television programming. It is not a low-cost version of the entire Peacock library. The official plan description specifically excludes sports, movies, and Peacock Originals.
Choose Select only if those exclusions do not affect what you intend to watch.
Peacock Premium
Premium is the sensible starting point for most people who want the main Peacock experience. It includes television, movies, Peacock Originals, live sports, and live events, but with ads.
For a viewer subscribing because of sports, Universal movies, or an exclusive Peacock series, Premium is the relevant lower-priced tier. Select will not provide those categories.

Peacock Premium Plus
Premium Plus is aimed at viewers who place a high value on reducing advertising, downloading selected programs for mobile viewing, or obtaining eligible local NBC programming where available.

“No ads” is not absolute. Peacock says advertising may still appear in live sports and events, always-on channels, and some shows or movies. Sponsorship or other embedded promotional material may also remain. It is more accurate to describe Premium Plus as no ads for most on-demand programming, with stated exceptions.
Downloads are also limited. Only selected titles can be downloaded, the feature is intended for supported mobile devices, and download rights can vary by title or expire. Premium Plus does not make the entire Peacock library available offline.
Is Peacock free?
You can create a free Peacock account, but a free account is not the same as unrestricted free access to the full service. The current Peacock plan page presents Select, Premium, and Premium Plus as its principal subscription tiers, and Select is a paid plan—not a free tier.
Therefore, “Peacock is free” is an incomplete description. Free account creation may be available, but the movies, sports, Originals, and broader catalog associated with paid plans require the appropriate subscription.
Does Peacock have live NBC, sports, or live TV?
Live NBC
Do not assume that every Peacock subscriber receives every local NBC broadcast. Premium Plus may provide access to live local NBC programming where the viewer is eligible, but availability can depend on market, plan, device, location, and rights conditions.
Peacock is not automatically equivalent to a cable subscription, and it does not automatically satisfy the TV-provider authentication requirement for separate NBCUniversal network apps.
Live sports
Peacock carries selected live sports and events, but the rights are specific to each competition and event. A game may be unavailable because it is outside your plan, subject to regional rights, blacked out locally, carried by another network or service, or affected by a location or account problem.

Is it live TV?
Peacock has live sports, events, news programming, and continuous channels, but it is not a complete live-TV replacement by default. It does not promise every broadcast network, every local station, every sports league, every game, or a full cable-news lineup.
Where is Peacock available?
Peacock is primarily a U.S. service. It is currently available in:
- The United States
- American Samoa
- Guam
- Northern Mariana Islands
- Puerto Rico
- U.S. Virgin Islands
It is not generally available worldwide. People outside these locations should not assume that a U.S. subscription will work normally while abroad. Check Peacock’s availability guidance for current geographic information.

What devices support Peacock?
Peacock works on mainstream televisions, streaming players, phones, tablets, computers, and game consoles, but compatibility depends on the exact model and operating-system version.
Current examples include:
- Browsers: Chrome 125 or later, Firefox 127 or later, and Microsoft Edge 125 or later on Windows and Mac; Safari 17.3 or later on Mac.
- Mobile: Android 7.0 or later and iOS 16 or later.
- TV and streaming platforms: Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV HD fourth generation or later with tvOS 18 or later, Chromecast second generation or later, Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV, Android TV, LG webOS 3.5 or later, Samsung Smart TVs from 2017 or later, Vizio SmartCast TVs from 2016 or later, and Hisense VIDAA 5.0 or later.
- Consoles: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
- Other equipment: Xumo and selected cable-provider devices.
Manufacturer support alone is not enough. For example, an older Samsung television may not support the app even though newer Samsung models do. Verify the exact model and software version on Peacock’s official supported-device page before buying new hardware.

Peacock allows up to six profiles and up to three simultaneous streams. Three streams do not mean that one account may be freely shared among three unrelated households. Peacock’s household policy defines the service as personal use within the primary household.

If a crashed browser or app continues to count as an active stream, Peacock says waiting approximately 10 minutes may resolve a stale-session error. See the concurrent-stream guidance and household policy.

Does Peacock replace cable?
Sometimes, but not completely. Peacock can replace part of a cable package for someone whose priorities are NBCUniversal shows, Bravo and Telemundo programming, selected Universal movies, Peacock Originals, certain live sports, and on-demand viewing.
It is unlikely to replace a full cable or satellite package if you need every major broadcast network, all local stations, a broad live-channel lineup, cable news, every sports league, or every game. It also does not automatically unlock all NBCUniversal network apps through TV-provider authentication.
The right question is not simply whether Peacock costs less than cable. It is whether the service includes the specific shows, events, local broadcasts, and channels you actually watch.

Peacock is a strong fit if you:
- Regularly watch NBC or Bravo programming.
- Want Universal movies alongside television and sports.
- Follow sports or events carried exclusively or prominently on Peacock.
- Want Peacock Originals.
- Prefer on-demand viewing with some live programming rather than a full cable bundle.
- Use a supported TV, streaming device, phone, console, or browser.
Peacock may be a poor fit if you:
- Want a completely ad-free experience, especially for live sports.
- Expect Select to include movies, sports, or Originals.
- Need a complete replacement for cable or satellite.
- Live outside the United States or listed U.S. territories.
- Need unrestricted downloads of the entire catalog.
- Expect a Peacock login to work as a pay-TV credential in every NBCUniversal network app.
- Primarily want international programming or another service’s exclusive originals.
Peacock alternatives
Peacock’s most important distinction is its NBCUniversal-focused catalog, so alternatives are best understood by ecosystem:
- Netflix: A broad general-entertainment service with a large originals catalog, but not a substitute for Peacock-specific NBCUniversal sports and programming.
- Max: A stronger fit for HBO and Warner Bros. programming.
- Disney+: A stronger fit for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and family franchises.
- Paramount+: A stronger fit for Paramount, CBS, and Showtime-related viewing.
- Prime Video: A broader ecosystem combining included streaming with rentals, purchases, and channel subscriptions.
Competitor prices, bundles, catalog availability, and stream limits change frequently, so compare those details separately rather than treating any alternative as a direct one-for-one replacement.
Other ways to subscribe
Peacock can also be distributed through partner platforms in some circumstances. An official Apple TV and Peacock bundle combines Apple TV+ and Peacock, but the services remain viewed in their respective apps. It makes sense mainly for someone who already wants both subscriptions.
Peacock Premium Plus may also be available as a Prime Video add-on. This can simplify Amazon billing or viewing through Prime Video, but it should not automatically be assumed to be cheaper or identical in every respect to subscribing directly through Peacock.
Common Peacock misunderstandings
- “All Peacock plans have the same catalog.” No. Select excludes sports, movies, and Peacock Originals.
- “Premium Plus has no commercials at all.” No. Ads may remain in live sports, events, channels, and some programs.
- “Peacock has every NBC show and every NBC game.” Availability varies by title, rights agreement, plan, and location.
- “Three streams means three households.” No. The service is intended for personal use within one household.
- “Peacock works on every smart TV.” Support depends on the exact model and operating-system version.
- “Peacock is a cable channel package.” It is an internet streaming service with selected live programming, not a universal live-TV bundle.
Bottom line: which Peacock plan should you choose?
Choose Select if you mainly want its included NBC and Bravo television programming and do not need movies, sports, or Peacock Originals.
Choose Premium for the core Peacock service: television, movies, Originals, live sports, and events at the standard subscription price, with ads.
Choose Premium Plus only when reduced advertising, selected downloads, or eligible local NBC access is important enough to justify the additional cost—and remember that live sports, channels, and some programs can still contain advertising.
For most cord-cutters, Peacock works best as a focused supplement to other streaming services, not as a complete replacement for cable.
