For the lowest cash cost, start with a computer or other capable device and broadband you already own. Set it to the lowest resolution and frame rate that suit your content, measure the equipment’s actual power use, and calculate electricity at your local tariff. There is no reliable single all-India monthly price: the answer depends on your equipment, electricity tariff, broadband plan and need for backup.
If you are looping prerecorded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera or event, compare the local electricity and connectivity costs with a cloud service. StreamNeo is one such option: it keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud, so your home computer does not need to stay on. Its price and plan details are below.
Start with the cheapest setup you already have
A continuous YouTube broadcast needs four things: a content source or playout device, an encoder, an internet upload connection and YouTube’s stream ingestion. Reusing suitable equipment and broadband avoids buying a new computer or paying for hosting, but it makes the stream dependent on your local power and internet.
This is the best place to start if you already have a computer or device that can sustain the output you need. Lowering resolution or frame rate can reduce the upload capacity required; it does not remove the need for stable power and connectivity. For a camera, event or gameplay feed, the source itself must also remain available at the premises.

Check that your channel can stream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Confirm eligibility before spending on equipment or a hosting service. For encoder streaming, YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key; enter them in the encoder as directed in YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Choose a sustainable stream format
YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p/30 fps, 4 Mbps for 720p/30 fps and 2.5 Mbps for 480p/30 fps. These are recommended bitrates, not a guarantee of stability on a particular connection. Check YouTube’s complete encoder bitrate table for other resolutions, frame rates and codecs.
Run an upload speed test and leave roughly 20% headroom above the stream’s outbound bitrate. YouTube recommends testing audio and video, encoder failover and stream health; its guidance warns that “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” Wi-Fi, ISP congestion and other household traffic can make a nominal speed less useful than a stable wired connection.

Calculate the actual local running cost
Measure the average power draw of the equipment that will stay on, then estimate its energy use with this formula:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Monthly kWh = average watts Ă— 24 hours Ă— 30 days Ă· 1,000
For arithmetic illustration only, a steady 50 W load uses 36 kWh over 30 days; a steady 100 W load uses 72 kWh. Multiply your measured kWh by the marginal electricity tariff that applies to your state, utility and consumer category. Account separately for fixed charges, slabs, taxes and subsidies where applicable. These examples are not equipment tests or claims about a typical streaming computer.

India does not have one electricity rate that can be applied to every household. A Ministry of Power release dated 23 March 2026 says supply and distribution are within the remit of state governments or distribution utilities. It describes Rule 10 of the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020 as providing for 24Ă—7 supply while allowing commissions to specify fewer hours for some categories; that national rule does not establish uninterrupted power at an individual address. Check your current local tariff and premises-level reliability.
Broadband is a separate budget item. BharatNet lists a service-specific bandwidth tariff of ₹120 per Mbps per year plus prevailing GST, effective from 11 May 2026 through 31 December 2028 unless revised earlier. This is not a representative household broadband plan price. Check the local ISP plans and availability for your address rather than using that figure as a home-internet estimate.
Keep power and internet failures separate
A UPS or inverter can keep local equipment powered during a power interruption, but it cannot restore a failed ISP path or fix an interruption at YouTube. A powered router alone will not keep a stream going if the encoder loses power, and a UPS does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.

Size backup for the complete local setup
Measure the combined load of everything that must remain on: the encoder or playback device, modem or ONT, router, and any production equipment essential to the stream. Choose backup based on that load and the runtime you want, and consider battery replacement cost and local service. A setup needing only internet backup is different from one that must keep the encoder and source alive too.
Test the complete arrangement under the intended load. Confirm that the encoder continues sending, the network devices remain connected and the stream stays healthy. A backup connection helps only if it is genuinely independent and available at your address; switching networks does not help if both paths share a point of failure.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Compare local playout with cloud streaming for prerecorded video
If your program is a prerecorded loop or scheduled playlist, compare the measured local cost with a cloud playout service. Cloud operation can avoid keeping a home encoder on, but it does not automatically mean a lower total bill: compare the service charge with local electricity, broadband, any required backup, control and monitoring needs, archive recording and service terms. For a physical live source such as a camera or event, cloud playout of uploaded files is not a substitute for capturing that live source.

StreamNeo for an uploaded-video YouTube loop
For a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream, StreamNeo is the first cloud option to consider: it runs always on from the cloud, accepts any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free. It is for uploaded videos and playlists on YouTube, not live camera input.
Getting started is three steps:
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the content from the cloud.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers. The same product is on every plan; only the billing length changes. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Billing options are:
- Daily: $0.99 per day
- Weekly: $2.99 per week
- Monthly: $9.99 per month
- 6 months: $49.99 for 6 months
- Yearly: $89.99 a year
Plans can be cancelled any time. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Contact support about five or more slots.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload a video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPlan for all-day streams and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, “it may not be captured at all”; DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable on very long streams. Do not assume one uninterrupted all-day broadcast will produce a complete replay. If preserving the full program matters, schedule shorter sessions and/or make a local recording.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start an encoder stream | Channel eligibility, stream URL/key or encoder configuration | Confirm channel verification and restriction status; recheck the stream URL and key in the encoder instructions. |
| Stream health fluctuates or the broadcast breaks | Insufficient or unstable upload, congestion or a network interruption | Test outbound speed, leave about 20% headroom, reduce bitrate or format if needed, and test the connection under normal household use. |
| The stream stops during a power cut | Encoder, source or network equipment is not on backup | Check the combined load and ensure every essential device—not only the router—has backup for the target runtime. |
| The router stays powered but the stream is offline | Encoder power loss, ISP-path failure or YouTube-side interruption | Check each link in the chain separately; router power alone does not preserve the ISP connection or restore YouTube ingestion. |
| The all-day replay is incomplete or absent | The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold | Use sessions under 12 hours and/or record locally when a complete archive is important. |
Check rights before leaving a loop running
Only stream videos and audio you have the rights and permissions to use. A continuous loop does not change copyright obligations or YouTube’s channel rules. Review YouTube’s current policies and the permissions for every item in a playlist before scheduling a long broadcast; remove material if you cannot establish your right to stream it.
