Streamlabs Talk Studio is a browser-based studio for livestreaming and recording with guests, screen sharing, and other on-screen sources. You set up your camera and microphone, add streaming destinations, arrange what viewers will see, then choose Go Live to start. It is aimed at live, interactive productions—not at keeping a pre-recorded YouTube video running 24/7.

What is Streamlabs Talk Studio?

Streamlabs describes Talk Studio as “the web-based live streaming and recording studio that allows you to invite guests, share your screen and go live + record instantly!” It runs in a web browser rather than requiring a studio app installation. Streamlabs’ getting-started guide lists Google Chrome and Safari as supported browser choices and recommends a stable internet connection, preferably Ethernet.

Talk Studio combines a host’s camera and microphone with invited guests, screen shares, and media in a browser-based production. You can stream to configured destinations, record, or do both. The official setup guide documents controls for chat, scheduling, branding, styles, banners, tickers, a teleprompter, virtual backgrounds, blur, intro and outro video, and integrated apps.

What you need before going live

  • A Streamlabs ID and a supported browser, such as Google Chrome or Safari, as listed in Streamlabs’ getting-started guide.
  • A stable internet connection. The 2023 guide lists 5 Mbps upload as a minimum; for its resolution guidance, it calls for 5 Mbps required and 10 Mbps recommended for 720p, and 10 Mbps required and 20 Mbps recommended for 1080p. These are guide figures, not a guarantee that a particular connection will deliver a reliable broadcast.
  • A camera and microphone, or other selected audio/video inputs. The host grants browser permissions and selects devices during setup. A webcam is optional: Talk Studio supports a stream avatar for users without one.
  • At least one configured destination if you plan to broadcast. Each destination may have its own setup steps or requirements.
  • If you plan to make a local recording, a computer with at least 5 GB of free space. Streamlabs’ local-recording guide says local recording is unavailable on mobile devices.

How to set up and use Talk Studio

1. Open the studio and allow devices

Create or sign in with a Streamlabs ID and open Talk Studio in Chrome or Safari. When prompted, allow camera and microphone access in the browser. Select the audio and video inputs you want to use. If you do not have a webcam, choose the avatar option instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Add your streaming destination

In Talk Studio, open Profile Picture → Account Settings → Destinations → Add Destination. Choose a destination and follow its connection prompts. Check the destination’s own requirements, since they can differ by platform. The number of destinations available depends on your plan.

3. Build the on-screen scene

In the editor, select sources such as your camera, guests, screen shares, or media from the left panel, then choose Show on stream to put a source on air. Use Hide on stream to remove it from the live scene. Adding sources makes different layouts available, so check the composition before inviting viewers in.

4. Invite and admit guests

Select Add Guest, then copy or email the invitation link. Guests appear in the Queue. Move a guest to Show on stream when you are ready to include them: Streamlabs says the guest’s microphone is not audible before that step.

Streamlabs’ getting-started guide instead says Pro allows up to 24 guests, with 15 on screen. Treat the plans page as the currently displayed offer, and confirm the live plan details before purchasing or planning a large panel.

5. Choose recording options if needed

Open Settings → Output to enable recording options. Cloud Recording provides a complete recording and an audio-only downloadable file. Recording has its own limits, even while a broadcast is running. The recording guide lists a maximum of four hours per session on Standard and ten hours per session on Pro; when the recording reaches its limit, it stops while the live broadcast may continue. The local-recording guide also lists retention periods: Free keeps the 15 latest recordings for 3 days, Standard for 15 days, and Pro for 30 days. Older recordings are automatically deleted after the applicable period. Download anything you need to keep, preferably to an external drive.

6. Start the broadcast and end it deliberately

Select Go Live, choose the destination or destinations, and enter the requested platform details, such as a title and description. Start the broadcast after checking the scene, audio, and destination. When finished, use End Stream. Streamlabs warns that failing to end the stream this way can leave it online; closing the browser window is not the instructed stop procedure.

Is Talk Studio suitable for a 24/7 pre-recorded YouTube stream?

Talk Studio’s documented workflow is for a host-led live show and recordings, with guests and screen shares. The product information covered here does not establish that it can loop uploaded videos continuously or keep a YouTube channel live 24/7. If that is the job you need done, a cloud service built to loop uploaded videos is a different kind of tool.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stream or record for free?

Streamlabs’ plans page advertises a seven-day free trial. Check the current plan page for the trial’s eligibility and terms.

Can guests join Talk Studio without being heard immediately?

Yes. A guest waits in the Queue until the host moves them to Show on stream; the setup guide says the guest microphone is not audible before then.
