Spotify Premium Duo is one subscription for two separate Premium accounts belonging to people who live at the same household address. One person—the plan manager—pays the bill and manages membership; the other joins with an invitation. Each person keeps a separate login, playlists, recommendations, listening history and downloads. It is not a shared Spotify account.
The U.S. launch price was $16.99 per month in June 2024. Spotify’s U.S. Duo page showed $18.99 per month when checked in August 2026, so confirm the live price for your country and account before subscribing.
What Spotify Premium Duo includes
Duo supports two Premium subscribers under one household plan. Spotify’s corporate description is one primary subscriber plus one additional sub-account, rather than a single shared profile. Both people can listen independently on different devices while retaining their own Spotify accounts.
The plan manager receives the recurring bill and controls invitations and removals. Spotify says the manager cannot be replaced after the plan is created, so choose the paying account carefully. Details are documented in Spotify’s Duo plan support guide and its 2024 annual report.

Prices, taxes, eligibility, payment methods and plan availability vary by country and account. Check the official Spotify Premium Duo page immediately before signup. Spotify charges the manager; it does not automatically split the bill between members.
Who qualifies?
- Exactly two people use the subscription.
- Both people live at the same household address.
- Each person uses a separate Spotify account.
- The second account joins through the manager’s invitation.
- The address supplied by the member matches the manager’s address and is in the same country as the payment method.
Country, payment-method and account history rules can affect availability. Duo is not intended for friends or relatives living at different addresses, even if they are in the same city.
Choose the manager before you start
Use the account belonging to the person who will pay, handle invitations and keep the plan active. That account should have the correct country and payment method. Because Spotify does not provide a direct manager swap later, starting with the wrong account can require cancelling and setting up a new plan.
Prepare both Spotify accounts
- The manager can use an existing Spotify account, including one that currently has Premium, subject to its billing terms.
- The second person can join an existing Free or Premium account, or create an account during the invitation process.
- Confirm which email address and login method belong to each account. Signing in through Apple, Google, Facebook or another method can create a separate Spotify account, making playlists or Premium access appear to have disappeared. - If Premium is billed by a mobile carrier or another partner, the partner may have to be cancelled first and the current paid period may need to finish. The exact process depends on that partner.
How the manager starts Spotify Duo
Spotify’s dependable setup route is the web account page. Labels can differ in the mobile app or after a redesign.

- Sign in to the intended manager account on Spotify.
- Open Available subscriptions on the account or subscription page.
- Select Premium Duo.
- Enter the manager’s complete household address.
- Choose a payment method and follow the on-screen instructions.
- When the plan is active, return to the account page and open the Duo plan-management area.

Invite the second account
- Open the manager’s Spotify account page.
- Go to the Duo management section and choose the option to invite a member.
- Copy or send the invitation link. Spotify says it can be sent by email or WhatsApp, among other methods.
- Send it to the person and account that should actually receive the membership.
Do not forward the link indiscriminately: accepting it while signed in to the wrong Spotify profile can enroll that profile instead.
How the second person joins
- Open the invitation link.
- Select Accept invite.
- Check the displayed Spotify account. Choose Change account if it is not the intended one.
- Enter the same full household address used by the manager.
- Select Confirm.
These are Spotify’s documented desktop controls; mobile wording may vary. After acceptance, both accounts should show Premium, while the manager receives the single recurring charge. Once the address requirement is satisfied, members can listen away from home as well as at the registered address.
What each member gets—and what remains separate
- A separate login, library, playlists, saved music, recommendations and listening history.
- Premium listening benefits such as ad-free playback, offline downloads and unlimited skips.
- Independent listening on different devices without sharing a password.
- No merged library and no transfer of playlist ownership between accounts.
Audiobooks
Spotify’s current U.S. Duo page gives the plan manager 15 hours of audiobook listening per month from the subscriber catalog. Unused hours expire at month end and do not roll over; the member may need to purchase audiobook time separately. Spotify’s June 2024 announcement referred to a catalog of more than 250,000 titles, while the current page references more than 700,000, so catalog size is date-dependent.

Address verification and privacy
Spotify uses the address to check household eligibility; it is not a location-sharing feature. The member enters a full address when joining, and Spotify may request verification later if the manager changes address or the service cannot confirm the information. Spotify says it does not track the member’s location for this purpose.
If Spotify sends a re-verification email, the member has seven days to respond. A failed check or missed deadline removes Duo access and returns the member to Spotify Free. Spotify also says that member cannot join another Family or Duo plan for 12 months from the failed-verification date. Read the rules at Spotify’s address and verification support page.
If the address will not autocomplete
- Type the complete address and select Find.
- If it still does not appear, select the building, street name or a nearby public building.
- Do not enter somebody else’s address or use a VPN to bypass the household rule.
Why Duo enrollment fails
The invitation opens the wrong account
Sign out, reopen the link in a private browser window, or use Change account before accepting. If the wrong profile already joined, the manager can remove it and send a fresh invitation.
“You don’t live at the same address”
Compare the exact address text, country settings and payment-country requirements. Have the invitee use the manager’s complete address, not an abbreviated version. Also check that the invitation has not expired and that the invitee is not logged into another account. If valid details still fail, contact Spotify support rather than trying to evade verification.

Existing or partner-billed Premium
Review the existing subscription’s billing source and end date. Carrier- or partner-billed plans may require cancellation through that partner before a new Spotify plan can begin, and unused paid time is not guaranteed to transfer or be refunded.
Recent plan changes
Spotify says plan members can switch plans only once every 12 months. This can block a move from another Duo or Family subscription.

Moving house
The manager can check or change the address from the Duo page. Spotify may then ask the member to verify the new address again.
Moving countries
Duo is country-sensitive. A move may require changing the account country and using a payment method issued in the new country; Spotify does not promise a seamless transfer of an existing Duo subscription.

Cancellation and leaving
The manager cancels from the account’s subscription-management area. A member can leave through Manage subscription and Cancel plan under available plans. Access and billing end according to the account’s billing status and cancellation timing.

For Spotify’s own alternatives, compare Premium Individual and Premium Family. Competitor prices and eligibility change, so use their live pages rather than an old price list.
Is Spotify Duo right for you?
Choose Duo when exactly two people share a household, both want Premium personalization, and one person is willing to manage payment and verification. Choose Individual plans when addresses or billing must remain independent; choose Family when more than two eligible household members need Premium. In every case, verify the manager account, country, address and current price before accepting an invitation.
