Snapchat’s Friend Solar System is a Snapchat+ feature that shows your position in another person’s Best Friends list as a planet. Mercury represents first place and Neptune eighth. It is optional, off by default for first-time Snapchat+ subscribers, and the planet reflects that person’s list—not necessarily yours.
What Snapchat Solar System means
Officially called Friend Solar Systems, the feature uses a solar-system metaphor: the friend whose profile you open is the Sun, and you appear as a planet if you are among that person’s eight Best Friends. Snapchat describes Best Friends as people with whom someone exchanges Snaps and Chat messages most frequently. The feature is part of Snapchat+; it is not a separate app, game, or public ranking. Snapchat’s Friend Solar Systems guide
Snapchat says the feature is private and does not reveal the other people in someone’s Best Friends list or provide a numerical ranking. That means your planet tells you your position in relation to the friend whose profile you are viewing; it is not a way to inspect that person’s whole list. Snapchat’s explanation of Best Friends and the Solar System
Snapchat planets in order
| Planet | Position in that friend’s Best Friends list |
|---|---|
| Mercury | 1st |
| Venus | 2nd |
| Earth | 3rd |
| Mars | 4th |
| Jupiter | 5th |
| Saturn | 6th |
| Uranus | 7th |
| Neptune | 8th |
For example, Mercury means you hold position one in that person’s list. Snapchat defines these as list positions, not fixed friendship labels such as “close” or “casual.” Snapchat’s Friend Solar Systems guide

How to enable Snapchat Solar System
You need an active Snapchat+ subscription. Snapchat says Solar System is off by default for first-time subscribers, so subscribing alone may not turn it on. The stable destination is Snapchat+ feature management, though button names can vary slightly by app version, device, or interface rollout. About Snapchat+
- Open Snapchat and tap your Bitmoji or profile icon.
- Tap Snapchat+.
- Open Feature Management.
- Find Solar System or Friend Solar System and switch it on.
If the Snapchat+ area is not visible, dismiss other profile banner cards that may be covering it. After subscribing, restart Snapchat if the feature options have not appeared. Snapchat’s subscription instructions also explain that subscription steps can depend on how you signed up. How to subscribe to Snapchat+
How to see which planet you are
- Open the friend’s profile or Friendship Profile.
- Look for the Best Friends badge with a gold ring.
- Tap the badge to see your planet, if the feature is enabled and you have a position in that friend’s list.
The badge and planet are relationship indicators within Snapchat’s feature; they do not show a complete list of the friend’s Best Friends.

Is the planet ranking mutual?
No. The planet on a friend’s profile shows your position in that friend’s Best Friends list. It does not automatically show that friend’s position in your list. You might be Mercury in Alex’s Solar System while Alex is Neptune—or is not among your eight Best Friends. Each person’s list is based on their own Snapchat activity.

How to turn Solar System off
Open Profile → Snapchat+ → Feature Management, then switch Solar System off. Snapchat says the feature can be toggled on or off at any time. Turning off the display does not cancel Snapchat+ or delete your friendship, Snaps, or Chats. Snapchat’s Friend Solar Systems guide

No complete formula is published in Snapchat’s official material. Snapchat says Best Friends reflect whom a user Snaps and Chats with most frequently, and that the list can change over time; it does not specify a numerical interaction score or confirm every activity that may affect placement. A planet can therefore change, but Snapchat does not state an update interval. Snapchat’s Best Friends and troubleshooting information
