Naked and Afraid XL is Discovery’s extended group survival series, in which experienced participants face wilderness challenges with minimal resources. The “40-day” description applies to particular seasons—not every season. In Warner Bros. Discovery’s April 2024 announcement, 12 survivalists who had previously completed 21-day Naked and Afraid challenges set out to last 40 days in Colombia’s badlands without food, water, or clothes.
What is Naked and Afraid XL?
Naked and Afraid XL expands the original series’ survival premise into a larger group challenge. Participants must endure in the wilderness without the ordinary supplies and comforts of daily life. Discovery describes the show as an ultimate survival challenge and lists multiple seasons and episodes on its official series page.
The XL format is not defined by one setting or a fixed number of days. Discovery’s page includes a “40 miles. 40 days. 40 nights.” description alongside summaries for other seasons, while a separate historical Warner Bros. Discovery announcement describes a 60-day challenge in Louisiana. The duration and location should therefore be understood season by season.
What happened in the announced 40-day season?

How long is the Naked and Afraid XL challenge?
It depends on the season. The 2024 Colombia challenge was announced as 40 days; Discovery’s series page also describes a 40-day, 40-night premise, while Warner Bros. Discovery has separately documented a 60-day Louisiana challenge. Check the description for the specific season rather than assuming all XL expeditions share one duration.
