Naal 2 is a 2023 Marathi family drama that finds its strongest moments in the growing bond among three children. Its gentle performances and emotional core are affecting, but uneven pacing—especially in the first half—keeps this sequel from feeling as focused as it could be.
What is Naal 2 about?
Written and directed by Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti, Naal 2 follows Chaitu as he visits his birth family and meets his siblings, Chimi and Mani. Chimi is initially reluctant to accept him; the film follows how the children’s relationships gradually develop. The story expands its attention beyond Chaitu to the siblings and their parents, making family connection its emotional center.
The film is a sequel to the 2018 Marathi drama Naal. Viewers unfamiliar with the first film can still follow the basic relationship at the heart of this story, though the sequel’s setup builds on Chaitu’s earlier circumstances.
What works best in the film?
The three young performers
Shrinivas Pokale, Treesha Thosar, and Bhargav Jagtap give the film its natural, affecting center. Both Loksatta and The Times of India highlight the trio’s work. Loksatta particularly singles out Thosar in the climax. The children make the developing sibling bond feel lived-in rather than merely explained.

A simple story with emotional reach
The film’s central idea is that a sibling bond can matter whether it is biological or formed through experience. That gives the story a clear emotional anchor, even when its plotting takes time to gather momentum. Its restrained, intimate approach will likely appeal most to viewers who enjoy family dramas built around relationships rather than constant incident.
Rural imagery and music
Loksatta praises the cinematography for its village details and aerial views, as well as AV Prafullachandra’s songs and Advait Nemlekar’s background score. The Times of India also notes the cinematography and says the music complements the film. These elements support the drama’s quiet, place-rooted mood.
Where does Naal 2 lose focus?
The main reservation is pacing. Loksatta felt the film could have been shorter, while The Times of India reviewer Kalpeshraj Kubal said the first half hampers the flow and the second half works substantially better. Kubal wrote, “The first half hampers the flow of the film but the second part hits a homerun, making Naal 2 a good watch this weekend.” The Times of India rated it 3.0/5 in its November 10, 2023 review.
This is a matter of narrative rhythm, not a claim that the film’s emotional material fails. The children’s performances and the sibling story remain its strongest assets; the slower early stretch may test viewers looking for a tighter, more consistently paced drama.
