Landman is based on Boomtown, an 11-part podcast from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly. Paramount describes the series as a scripted story set in West Texas oil boomtowns, not as a documentary or a literal account of specific people and events.
What is the source of Landman?
Paramount’s February 6, 2024 production announcement says the series is based on the 11-part podcast Boomtown. Paramount’s July 9, 2024 premiere announcement identifies Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly with the podcast.
The series is set amid West Texas oil boomtowns and follows people across the oil business, from roughnecks to powerful industry figures. Paramount names Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace as co-creators. Its description of an “upstairs/downstairs” story and the boom’s effects on climate, the economy and geopolitics is the distributor’s synopsis of the show.
Is Landman based on a true story?
The accurate distinction is that the series is based on a podcast, not that it retells a verified single true story. Paramount’s official descriptions establish Boomtown as the source and identify the show’s broad setting and subject. They do not say that particular characters or plot events correspond to specific real people or incidents.
