The “10 levels” of Demon Slayer are the ten formal ranks of the Demon Slayer Corps, the organization of demon hunters in Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga and anime. They run from Mizunoto at the bottom to Kinoe at the top. The Hashira are the Corps’ elite pillars, but they are a separate title, not an eleventh rank above Kinoe.
The ten Corps ranks, lowest to highest
The ranks are named after the Japanese sexagenary (kanoe–kinoto) cycle of heavenly stems, which is why each name pairs an element with a yin or yang form. The table below lists them in ascending order with the kanji attached to each name, as given in a July 2026 rank guide from Twinfinite. That guide is a secondary entertainment source, so treat the complete table as a fan-facing canon summary rather than a table printed on an official page.
| Position | Corps rank | Kanji |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (lowest) | Mizunoto | 癸 |
| 2 | Mizunoe | 壬 |
| 3 | Kanoto | 辛 |
| 4 | Kanoe | 庚 |
| 5 | Tsuchinoto | 己 |
| 6 | Tsuchinoe | 戊 |
| 7 | Hinoto | 丁 |
| 8 | Hinoe | 丙 |
| 9 | Kinoto | 乙 |
| 10 (highest) | Kinoe | 甲 |
Read the list from the bottom up when you follow a new recruit’s progress. The names do not describe power levels; they only show where a rank sits in the ladder.
Where the Hashira fit
The Hashira are not an eleventh step. The official Demon Slayer anime site describes them as the pillars of the Demon Slayer Corps, and its character page for Kyojuro Rengoku identifies him as the Flame Hashira. The Hashira is therefore best understood as an elite designation held by a small group of top swordsmen, sitting alongside the ranked ladder rather than on top of it.

The distinction matters for lists online, where the Hashira are often placed after Kinoe as if they were rank eleven. Keep them separate: the ladder is the ten ranks, and the Hashira are a status within the Corps.
Why the demons’ hierarchy is a different system
The Twelve Kizuki are the demons’ own ranked hierarchy, serving under Muzan Kibutsuji. They are a separate fictional organization with a separate numbering. Mixing them into the Corps ladder produces wrong answers to questions about the ten levels, so when you see a “Kizuki rank” or “demon rank,” it does not belong to the Demon Slayer Corps sequence.

What the sources do not establish
Many guides go beyond the ladder and explain how members are promoted. The sources reviewed for this article do not support those details. In particular, they do not establish:
- a fixed number of missions or demon kills required for each rank
- exact promotion thresholds for every one of the ten ranks
- a defensible power-strength scale comparing the ranks to one another
What can be stated with confidence is the order of the ten names and the fact that the Hashira are a separate, elite designation. Any claim beyond that should be checked against the manga or anime itself, where the story shows the ranks in action.

Shueisha’s official series page identifies Koyoharu Gotouge as the creator and summarizes the premise: after demons kill his family and turn his sister Nezuko into a demon, Tanjiro Kamado sets out to restore her and defeat the demon responsible. The Corps and its ranks belong to that fictional world. Shueisha’s page lists an official Corps fanbook among related books, but it does not describe that book as a dedicated rank reference, so it should not be cited as the source for the ladder.
For readers who want to verify the ladder themselves, the manga and anime are the most direct sources, because the names appear in the story’s own dialogue and character introductions.
