Hallow says its material is developed with Catholic theology and spirituality guides, reviewed by senior Church leaders, and based on an approved Catholic Bible. Those are descriptions of Hallow’s editorial process—not a claim that the Vatican or the Catholic Church officially operates or endorses the app.
Is Hallow an official Catholic Church or Vatican app?

What controversies surround Hallow?

Some fans criticized the partnership because of Hallow’s Catholic pro-life position and paid subscription model, and because they perceived tension between those associations and the LGBTQ audience connected with Stefani’s music career. Those reactions help explain the controversy around the partnership. They are not proof that Stefani has adopted every political position attributed to Hallow, its executives, or its investors.

What is Peter Thiel’s connection to Hallow?
Peter Thiel is a venture investor in Hallow, not one of its founders or its public operator.
Alessandro DiSanto’s University of Notre Dame biography says Hallow has raised more than $50 million from venture investors including General Catalyst and Peter Thiel. Hallow’s own funding announcement confirmed a Series A round of just over $12 million led by General Catalyst. Later reporting identified a $40 million Series B involving Thiel.
The precise amount invested personally by Thiel is not established by the strongest available information, so it would be inaccurate to assign him a specific dollar figure without further verification. His presence matters mainly as context: Thiel is a prominent conservative technology investor and political donor, and his backing contributes to Hallow’s conservative or MAGA-adjacent reputation. How large is Hallow?
In June 2025, Hallow announced that users had completed more than one billion prayers. The company also said it had nearly 24 million installs across more than 150 countries and eight languages, with more than 10,000 sessions available.
Those are company-reported figures, not an independent audit. They nevertheless indicate that Hallow has grown beyond a niche parish resource and has a substantial international audience. The app is available through Apple’s App Store, Google Play, and Amazon’s Appstore. Store ratings, download counts, rankings, prices, and session totals are volatile and should be checked again immediately before publication or purchase.
What does Hallow collect, and is it private?
Hallow’s current privacy policy says the company does not sell Personal Data. It also says private sensitive information such as journal entries and reflections is encrypted. The policy describes app analytics as generally aggregated, except when individualized information is needed for customer support or debugging.
That does not mean the app collects no information. According to the policy, Hallow collects categories of data that can include account information, device information, analytics, cookies, demographic information, approximate location, and other data used for service delivery, personalization, analytics, marketing, and related business purposes. Its data-category table says religious preference may be inferred from a user’s app activity.
