Facebook Watch was Facebook’s former name for its organized video-viewing destination. It launched in 2017 as a place for shows, live events, sports, news, and other video. Facebook later folded the experience into a broader Video tab, and in June 2025 Meta announced that the Videos tab would be renamed the Reels tab. That means many people will no longer see a button labeled “Watch.”

Today, you can find Facebook video through the Reels or video area, your Feed, Facebook Search, creator and Page profiles, Groups, and Live notifications. Facebook still supports short videos, long-form videos, and live broadcasts—the interface and labels have changed more than the underlying video catalog.

What Facebook Watch originally meant

Facebook Watch was introduced in August 2017 as a dedicated place for shows on Facebook. The idea was different from simply encountering a video in the News Feed: Watch was intended to organize episodic programming and combine viewing with Facebook’s social features, including comments, reactions, sharing, and discussions.

Its scope expanded beyond commissioned or episodic shows. Historically, Watch included:

In 2023, Meta described the Video tab—formerly known as Facebook Watch—as a single destination for Reels, long-form creator videos, and Live content. In 2024, it described a full-screen video experience covering short videos, longer videos, and Live videos.

So “Facebook Watch” is still a useful search term and historical product name, but it should not be treated as a separate streaming service like Netflix. It is also not necessarily a current tab name on every account.

Where Facebook video is located now

The exact layout varies by device, account, region, and Facebook’s ongoing interface tests. Look for these routes:

  • Reels: Meta announced that the Videos tab would be renamed the Reels tab in June 2025.
  • Feed: Videos posted by friends, Pages, Groups, and creators can appear among ordinary posts.
  • Search: Search for a show, topic, creator, Page, or specific video.
  • Pages and creator profiles: Open the profile or Page and browse its video posts, Reels, or Live replays.
  • Groups: Video posts and discussions may be available inside groups you have joined.
  • Live notifications: Followed Pages and creators can notify you when they begin broadcasting.

How to find and watch videos

  1. Open Facebook and sign in.
  2. Look for Reels in the app’s shortcut bar or in the navigation menu.
  3. On desktop, select Reels in the left-hand menu if it is displayed.
  4. If you do not see Reels, use the search field to look for a topic, Page, creator, or video.
  5. Select a video or reel to open Facebook’s viewer.
  6. Continue scrolling or use the available navigation to view related recommendations.

There is no guarantee that every account will display the same shortcut. Facebook can change the location and name of features as it tests new layouts. Not seeing a Watch button does not mean that Facebook video has been removed.

How to find long videos and Live replays

The Reels label can make Facebook video look focused entirely on short clips, but Meta says Facebook continues to support short videos, long-form videos, and Live content. If the main video area seems to show mostly short recommendations, use a more targeted route:

  • Search for the creator, Page, program, or subject.
  • Open a Page or creator profile and browse its posts or video section.
  • Check a relevant Group, where longer discussions and uploads may appear.
  • Look in Feed for videos shared by people or Pages you follow.
  • Open notifications from a followed Page or creator to find live broadcasts and later replays.

Live videos may originate from a personal profile, Page, Group, or event. You can watch them on a phone, computer, or supported connected-TV experience. A live broadcast may also remain available as a replay after it ends, although the creator can later change its audience or delete it.

How Facebook chooses video recommendations

Facebook personalizes recommendations using signals such as what you watch, what you watch for a while, and which videos you like, comment on, or share. It can also consider creators you follow, trending material, your location, the time of day, and direct feedback such as Interested or Not interested.

To improve what appears in your recommendations:

  • Watch more of the subjects and creators you genuinely want to see.
  • Follow Pages and creators whose videos are useful to you.
  • Choose Interested when Facebook offers that feedback option for relevant material.
  • Choose Not interested or Hide reel when you do not want similar recommendations.
  • Avoid repeatedly opening videos you already know you do not want; viewing behavior is one of the signals Facebook uses.

Hiding a reel removes it immediately and reduces recommendations from that creator. Feedback influences future suggestions gradually, and its effect may diminish over time, so you may need to repeat the action when unwanted material returns.

How to save a video to watch later

When you find a tutorial, recipe, interview, news clip, documentary, or long video that you cannot watch immediately:

  1. Open the video or reel.
  2. Open its Options menu, usually represented by three dots.
  3. Select Save reel or Save video.

Saving adds the item to Facebook’s saved-content area. It is not the same as downloading the video to your phone or computer. The video still belongs to the platform and its creator, and it may later become unavailable if the creator deletes it, changes its privacy settings, or Facebook changes the feature.

How to like, comment on, and share videos

Facebook lets viewers react to, comment on, and share many videos. Depending on the video’s privacy settings, you may be able to share it to:

  • Your timeline
  • Your Story
  • A Messenger conversation
  • A Facebook Group
  • A friend’s profile
  • A Page

Sharing is limited by the audience selected for the original post. You cannot necessarily make a private or restricted video public by sharing it.

Watching is different from interacting. Facebook says your watch history is not visible to other people, but actions such as liking, commenting, following, and sharing can create visible social signals. For example, friends may see a reaction when they encounter the video, comments on a Page or video may be visible to people on Facebook, and sharing an episode or series exposes it to the audience you selected.

How to control autoplay and mobile-data use

Autoplay can consume more data than ordinary text and image posts. In the Facebook app on iOS or Android, look for the video autoplay setting and choose one of these options:

  • On mobile data and Wi-Fi: Videos can begin playing on either connection.
  • Wi-Fi only: Autoplay is limited to Wi-Fi.
  • Never autoplay videos: You must start videos manually.

Facebook may still require a tap when the mobile connection is slow or when you have recently used a large amount of data, even if autoplay is enabled.

For additional control, look under Settings and privacy > Settings > Preferences > Media. The available options can include video quality and Data Saver. Data Saver can reduce resolution and is useful when conserving cellular data matters more than maximum picture quality.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical choices: use Wi-Fi only on a limited mobile plan, choose Never autoplay videos to prevent accidental playback, and enable Data Saver when you are watching away from Wi-Fi.

How to hide, report, or manage unwanted videos

Use the response that matches the problem:

  • Not interested: Use this when you simply do not want more recommendations like the current video.
  • Hide reel: Use this to remove the recommendation immediately and reduce content from that creator.
  • Report: Use this when the video may violate Facebook’s rules, such as through harassment, dangerous activity, or another policy concern.

To report a reel or video, open its Options menu, choose Find support or report video, select the relevant category, and follow the instructions. Reporting is not the best tool for ordinary preference management; use Not interested or Hide reel when the content is merely irrelevant to you.

Captions, translations, and original audio

Supported reels and videos may offer captions, translations, or voice-translation controls. In the app, open the video or reel’s settings and look for Captions and translations, or a similarly named option. If Facebook is translating the spoken audio and you prefer the creator’s original language, turn off voice translations when that control is available.

These features are not universal. Availability and labels depend on the video, language, device, and Facebook’s rollout. A particular video may have no captions, no translation, or no dubbed-audio option.

If you want to create Facebook video instead

Facebook’s current product direction matters to creators as well as viewers. Meta says newly posted Facebook videos are being moved into the Reels publishing flow, while previously shared videos remain on a profile or Page. Meta also says the change does not impose length or format restrictions on reels: Facebook continues to support short, long, and Live video, with audience controls available.

For Live video, Facebook supports broadcasting from a profile, Page, Group, or event. A Page or professional-mode profile using the applicable route must meet Facebook’s stated eligibility requirements, including an account that is at least 60 days old and at least 100 followers. Those requirements apply to creating Live video, not to watching it.

Facebook Watch troubleshooting

“I cannot find Watch.”

Search for Reels or Video, check the desktop left menu or app shortcut bar, and use Facebook Search if neither appears. The name and placement can vary by account, device, and testing status.

“I only see short clips.”

Search for a specific creator or topic, open a Page or Group, check Feed, or look for a Live replay. Facebook’s shift toward a Reels-labeled surface does not mean that all Facebook videos are short-form.

“Facebook videos are using too much data.”

Set autoplay to Wi-Fi only or Never autoplay videos. Then check Settings and privacy > Settings > Preferences > Media for Data Saver or video-quality controls.

“The recommendations are poor.”

Follow preferred creators and use Interested, Not interested, or Hide reel. Do not keep opening unwanted videos simply to dismiss them; that viewing activity can influence recommendations.

“I want to return to a video later.”

Open the Options menu while watching and select Save reel or Save video. Remember that saving does not guarantee permanent access.

“I am worried that people can see what I watch.”

Facebook says watch history itself is not visible to other people. Likes, comments, follows, and shares are different: their visibility depends on the action, the post, and the selected audience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Facebook Watch still available?

Facebook Watch is primarily a former product name. The organized video experience has been folded into Facebook’s broader video surfaces, and Meta announced in June 2025 that the Videos tab would be renamed Reels. You may still find long videos and Live content, but not necessarily a tab labeled Watch.

Is Facebook Watch free?

Facebook video viewing does not require a separate Facebook Watch subscription. However, watching video can use mobile data, and some content may be subject to the creator’s audience settings or regional availability.

Can I download Facebook Watch videos?

Saving a reel or video places it in Facebook’s saved-content area; it does not download the file. Do not assume you can download videos created by someone else. Facebook provides separate instructions for downloading a creator’s own ended Live video.

Can other people see my Facebook Watch history?

Facebook says your watch history is not visible to other people. However, likes, comments, follows, and shares may be visible depending on the action and the audience settings.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Facebook Watch is best understood as the former name for Facebook’s organized video experience. To use it today, look for Reels or the video area, then use Search, Feed, Pages, Groups, and Live notifications to find the content you want. You can save videos for later, tune recommendations, limit autoplay and data use, and control how your interactions appear—but the exact labels and layout may differ across accounts and devices.
