Spoilers for the manga’s final battle and Chapter 271. Yuji defeats Sukuna by targeting the boundary between Sukuna’s soul and Megumi Fushiguro’s. Sukuna is not shown returning to the living world in the final chapter; the closing image of his finger leaves room for interpretation, but does not confirm a revival.
How Yuji defeats Sukuna
Yuji’s final approach is to attack the seam between Sukuna’s soul and Megumi’s, aiming to separate them. VIZ’s description of the final collected volume identifies this as the climax of the battle: VIZ Media’s Volume 30 description says Yuji attacks that boundary in an attempt to separate the two.

Sukuna loses. His reflection after defeat—that he might choose a different path if given another chance—provides an emotional coda, not evidence that he escapes or wins.
Does Sukuna come back in Chapter 271?
No return to the living world is depicted in Chapter 271. The chapter closes with an image of Sukuna’s finger, echoing the series’ opening. The finger makes the ending deliberately suggestive, but an image of the cursed object is not confirmation that Sukuna has reincarnated or will return.

Readers can interpret the final image as a hint of possibility or as a circular visual callback. The chapter does not resolve that ambiguity by showing Sukuna revived. You can read the official Chapter 271 listing on VIZ.
Where the ending falls in the final volume
Chapter 271 is collected in Volume 30, the manga’s final volume. Shueisha’s listing places Chapters 264–271 in the volume, followed by an epilogue and extra pages. It gives Chapter 268 the title “決着” (the resolution or conclusion), Chapter 270 “夢の終わり” (the end of the dream), and Chapter 271 “これから” (from now on or what comes next). How to read the ending without overstating it
- Established in the story: Yuji tries to separate Sukuna and Megumi by attacking the boundary between their souls, and Sukuna is defeated.
- Not shown: Sukuna returning to the living world in the finale.
- Left open to interpretation: What the final finger image might imply beyond its echo of the opening.
For the English edition, VIZ lists Volume 30 in paperback and digital formats. Its product page gives the paperback release date as May 12, 2026, and lists 192 pages; availability and price can vary by retailer and market. The Japanese publisher also lists 192 pages for its edition. These are edition details, not clues about Sukuna’s fate.
