Reporting and a later fact-check confirmed that the footage appeared on HUD monitors, but do not establish who put it there or how.
What appeared on the HUD televisions
The footage depicted Trump kissing Musk’s feet and carried the caption “LONG LIVE THE REAL KING.” WIRED reported that a person inside HUD’s Robert C. Weaver Federal Building shared video of the screens. Snopes later verified that videos circulating online genuinely showed the footage on televisions at HUD headquarters—not merely a fabricated claim about the incident. WIRED; Snopes
How long it played and how staff stopped it
The Record reported that the loop ran for about five minutes, citing sources who spoke to independent journalist Marisa Kabas. That is a reported estimate, not an official measurement. Accounts differ in the details of stopping the screens: WIRED said employees manually turned off each television, while The Record reported that staff initially could not turn them off and eventually unplugged them. Reuters described the footage as playing on loop for several minutes. The Record; Reuters
What HUD said
HUD spokesperson Kasey Lovett told WIRED: “Another waste of taxpayer dollars and resources. Appropriate action will be taken for all involved.” Reuters also reported the statement. It signaled that HUD intended to respond, but did not identify anyone responsible or describe a specific investigation or personnel action. WIRED; Reuters

Who put it on the screens?
The reporting cited here does not establish who caused the display, how the televisions were accessed, or whether a network intrusion occurred. The Daily Beast reported that the clip appeared to be an edited version of another video posted online at least as early as the preceding week, but the creator remained unidentified in the reporting. The Daily Beast
That distinction matters: the videos verified by Snopes support the claim that the footage appeared on HUD monitors; they do not prove a particular person’s involvement or explain the technical route. Calling the event an “apparent hack” is not a confirmed technical finding. The reviewed accounts also do not document the eventual outcome of any investigation; that absence is not proof that no investigation took place.
