Amazon reorganized Wondery; it did not eliminate the Wondery name or stop all Wondery-branded podcasting. The August 2025 changes moved much of Wondery’s studio and Wondery+ operation into Audible, while advertising, sponsorship, and some creator-related work were aligned with Amazon Music and a new creator-services operation. By 2026, Audible was listing many former Wondery+ programs as Audible Originals, while saying Wondery would continue releasing selected shows independently.
For listeners, that means the old Wondery+ experience is being wound down in favor of Audible access for many titles—but the transition is not a blanket transfer of every show, and Audible had not stated a firm end date for Wondery+ on its app and partner platforms.
What Amazon changed in the Wondery reorganization
The headline that Amazon was “merging Wondery into Audible and Amazon Music” captures the direction of the change but compresses several different moves. In an August 2025 report based on an internal Amazon memo, Thurrott described Wondery’s studio activity moving to Audible, Wondery+ moving to Audible, and advertising and sponsorship functions aligning with Amazon Music and a creator-services group. Amazon rejected the simple interpretation that Wondery was being shut down. The reported memo also connected the restructuring to changes in podcasting, including the growing overlap between audio and video. Thurrott’s August 2025 report attributed the internal-memo details to reporting rather than a public announcement of every operational change.
- Studio: Much of Wondery’s podcast studio operation was folded into Audible.
- Subscription: Wondery+ was moved toward Audible as the destination for premium access to many shows.
- Commercial and creator work: Advertising and sponsorship functions were aligned with Amazon Music and a creator-services operation focused on personality-led programming.
- Staffing: About 110 jobs were reported to be affected, and Wondery CEO Jen Sargent was reported to be leaving. These are reported figures and personnel changes, not a definitive public count of every affected employee.
Amazon acquired Wondery in December 2020. The purchase price was not officially disclosed; contemporary reporting estimated it at about $300 million. The reorganization therefore marks a change in how Amazon houses and sells Wondery-related audio, rather than evidence that it has abandoned spoken-word programming.

Is Wondery shutting down?
Not in the absolute sense. “Wondery” can refer to its former standalone corporate operation, its production studio, or the brand listeners see on programs. The first two have been substantially reorganized; the brand continues to appear on selected programming. Audible’s Wondery page says Wondery continues releasing podcasts independently of Audible, naming shows such as New Heights, Baby, This is Keke Palmer, Armchair Expert, and How I Built This. Audible’s current Wondery page is the clearest consumer-facing description of that distinction.
So “Wondery is gone” overstates what happened. A more accurate description is that Amazon dismantled Wondery’s previous standalone operating structure, integrated much of its premium narrative catalog and studio activity into Audible, and retained Wondery as a label for some programming.
What happened to Wondery+ and its shows?
Audible says many shows previously available through Wondery+ are now offered as Audible Originals, and that ongoing series continue to release episodes. It also says Wondery+ will end “in the coming months” on the Wondery app and through Apple Podcasts and Spotify. The page does not provide a specific termination date, so subscribers should not assume a particular final day.

Audible’s listings include titles such as Dr. Death, American Scandal, American History Tellers, Scamfluencers, Business Wars, British Scandal, Against the Odds, The Spy Who, Ghost Story, Even the Royals, Even the Rich, Hysterical, Dying for Sex, The Shrink Next Door, The Vanished, and Tides of History. That is a set of examples, not confirmation that every Wondery show moved, became exclusive, or has identical access terms.

“Moving to Audible” can mean different things from show to show. A title may be presented as an Audible Original, remain available through a public podcast feed while premium benefits sit behind Audible membership, or be licensed or co-produced under a particular arrangement. Audible’s own listing does not establish that every program is permanently exclusive or that every former Wondery+ title is included in every Audible plan.
What Audible offers former Wondery+ listeners
Audible Standard, announced on March 3, 2026, includes one audiobook per month from Audible’s full collection and unlimited access to a curated collection of audio content, including nearly 200 titles previously available on Wondery+. Audible listed the U.S. Standard price at $8.99 per month. The curated catalog is not the same as unlimited access to every Audible title, and availability can vary by country and by show. Audible’s U.S. help page also lists Premium memberships and notes that Audible Plus is available only to existing Audible Plus members as of March 3, 2026. The listed U.S. prices are a dated snapshot, not a global quote; geography, billing channel, and promotions can change what a customer sees.

What Wondery+ subscribers should check
Do not assume an old Wondery+ subscription has converted automatically, or that canceling it will preserve access to the same catalog and extras. Before changing subscriptions, check the specific show and how the existing payment is handled.

- Find the show’s current listing. Search Audible and the show’s public podcast feed. Confirm the exact series and season, rather than assuming a similarly named listing carries the same episodes.
- Check the access level. Verify whether the episodes you want are included with Standard, Premium, another arrangement, or only available through a public feed. Check whether ad-free listening, early releases, and bonus episodes are included for that title.
- Review who bills you. Look in Wondery, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or the relevant storefront’s subscription settings. The cancellation path and any account treatment depend on where you subscribed.
- Compare before starting a replacement plan. If you subscribe to Audible before checking the old billing, you could end up with duplicate charges. Do not count on an automatic conversion or refund unless the service that bills you confirms it.
- Keep account details if they matter to you. If listening history or saved episodes are important, record what you need before leaving an app; the available information does not establish that every account detail transfers between services.
Audible, Amazon Music, and public podcast feeds: different jobs
Amazon Music is not simply taking over Audible’s premium catalog. Audible is the more direct destination for much of the former Wondery+ premium programming and for audiobooks. Amazon Music remains a broader music, podcast, and audio-distribution service, while also being part of the reported commercial and creator-side realignment.

Amazon’s announcement about Audible access through Amazon Music Unlimited specifies one Audible audiobook per month for subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada; customers wanting more access can subscribe separately to Audible or buy titles individually. Amazon’s announcement makes clear that the audiobook benefit is limited, not a substitute for a full Audible membership.
For context, Amazon’s Music Unlimited FAQ displayed these U.S. prices: $10.99 monthly or $109 annually for Prime members; $11.99 monthly for non-Prime customers; $19.99 monthly or $199 annually for the Family plan; and $5.99 monthly for the Single Device plan. The FAQ includes references to 2025 price changes, so treat those as prices displayed in that U.S. FAQ rather than worldwide or permanent rates. Amazon Music’s FAQ lists the plan distinctions.

In May 2026, Audible also announced that members could access premium Audible storytelling through Apple Podcasts in 135 countries, describing this as building on the transition of titles previously available through Wondery+. Why Amazon reorganized Wondery
The reported internal rationale pointed to a podcast landscape increasingly shaped by video, where the line between a podcast host and a video creator is less distinct. The restructuring also fits a strategic logic: Amazon can place premium narrative audio alongside Audible’s established subscription and originals business, while bringing advertising and creator relationships closer to Amazon Music and related services. The video shift is a reported rationale and plausible context, not established as the sole cause of the restructuring.
The move suggests a shift away from maintaining a separate Wondery operating structure and toward integrating its assets into wider Amazon audio businesses. It does not establish that Wondery was individually unprofitable, nor does the available reporting provide a specific return-on-investment calculation. Amazon’s continued Audible originals and ongoing Wondery-branded shows indicate repositioning rather than a confirmed retreat from podcasts.
What the changes mean for employees, creators, and advertisers
For employees, the reported figure of about 110 affected jobs and Jen Sargent’s departure point to a significant change, but they do not reveal the final headcount or staffing structure. The internal reshuffle distributed work across existing Amazon audio operations rather than preserving the former Wondery setup as-is.

Advertisers face a similar distinction. The reported alignment of Wondery’s commercial functions with Amazon Music changes where sponsorship and ad relationships sit organizationally, but does not itself establish new rates, inventory, targeting, or campaign terms for any particular show.
