For U.S. Netflix viewers, “next week” means August 24–30, 2026. The three strongest broad-interest picks are The Whisper Man, Leanne Season 2 and the licensed film M3GAN—selected for recognizable talent or titles, audience appeal and event value, not an official Netflix ranking. The schedule also has worthwhile alternatives for fans of literary adaptations, horror and international dramas.
1. The Whisper Man is the week’s biggest movie draw
Arrives Friday, August 28. This Netflix crime thriller stars Robert De Niro and Adam Scott and adapts Alex North’s bestselling novel. Its story follows a father whose son has been abducted and a retired detective drawn into a case connected to a serial killer. The film comes from the Russo Brothers’ AGBO banner; that production connection does not mean it is a Marvel project. The U.S. August release calendar lists the date and film details.
The familiar crime-thriller setup, high-profile cast and Friday arrival make it the clearest weekend event for viewers who want a new movie. It is the top pick here, though the premise is a conventional thriller rather than evidence of a genre-changing film. Choose it for a tense crime story and a cast led by two widely recognized actors.

2. Leanne returns for Season 2
Arrives Thursday, August 27. Leanne Morgan returns in the comedy associated with sitcom veteran Chuck Lorre. Its returning-season status gives existing viewers a reason to tune in, while its sitcom format offers an accessible alternative to the week’s darker thrillers. The release calendar confirms the return and creative connection, but does not establish how much viewers need to remember from Season 1.
This is the pick for viewers who want comedy, especially Morgan’s fans and people who prefer a conventional sitcom to serialized drama. If you are looking for a crime story, horror or prestige-style drama, another arrival may be a better match.

3. M3GAN brings a familiar horror title
Arrives Monday, August 24. The 2022 science-fiction horror film follows an advanced AI doll that becomes violently overprotective. It stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw. Unlike the other two picks, M3GAN is a licensed movie arriving on Netflix, not a new Netflix original; its recognizable title and high-concept premise make it a strong option for horror and sci-fi fans. Tom’s Guide’s August roundup also identifies it as a movie coming to the service.
Pick it if you want a familiar, contained movie rather than a new series. If you specifically want an original or a newly arriving show, consider Revival or Beauty in Black Season 3 instead.

Netflix says its originals generally become available at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time on their release date, but weekly or broadcast-linked episodes may follow a different schedule. The listed dates are for the U.S.; availability and timing can vary by territory. Check the title in Netflix if it does not appear when expected. Netflix’s release-time guidance explains the general rule and exceptions.
