She is not shown or named in the 18-month epilogue, and the series never confirms whether she and Robin broke up or stayed together. Co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer left that question open on purpose, and Netflix’s finale coverage shows only that Robin goes on to Smith College.
What the finale shows about Vickie
Vickie is still part of Robin’s life at the start of Season 5. The two are a couple when the season opens, and Vickie is drawn into the supernatural conflict. She learns about the Upside Down and helps protect Max during the final fight. Her role in the story is real and active up to that point, which makes her absence from the closing time jump more noticeable.
Why the epilogue’s silence is not an answer
The finale’s epilogue jumps forward 18 months within Mike’s storyline. Vickie does not appear in that time jump, and no character mentions her. A reader could take that as a sign that something happened, but the episode never says so. The omission does not confirm a breakup, and it does not confirm anything more serious. It simply leaves her post-finale life outside the frame.
It helps to separate three things. Vickie being absent from the epilogue is a fact. Robin and Vickie no longer being together is not established. Their staying together is not established either. Anything beyond the absence is interpretation.

What the Duffers said about the couple
The most direct statements come from an interview with Entertainment Weekly, published January 2, 2026, in which both creators discussed the ending.
Ross Duffer: the future is left to viewers
Ross Duffer explained that the flash-forward in Mike’s story brings the characters “up to a certain point,” and that the show then leaves their ultimate futures partly to fans. Asked about the couple, he answered: “Do Robin and Vickie stay together? Maybe, maybe not.” That is the clearest on-record answer available, and it confirms that the outcome was deliberately left unsettled rather than quietly resolved.
Rank #2

Matt Duffer: a personal view on college couples
Matt Duffer offered a more skeptical view. Asked whether high-school couples tend to last once they leave for college, he said: “From my point of view and from everyone I knew in high school, what percentage of couples remain together after they leave for college? Extremely low.” He then added: “But, you never know.”
That is a creator’s personal impression of how relationships usually go, not a measured statistic, and it does not describe what happens to these characters. Read it as a hint at most. It leans toward a breakup without deciding the question, and the second half of his answer keeps the door open.

Clues readers point to
Fans have seized on two details. Neither one settles anything, and both are open to more than one reading.
The graduation scene
Entertainment Weekly flagged the couple’s absence from the same graduation scene as a possible breakup clue. The scene’s staging can be read in more than one way, and the episode does not explain it, so treat this as interpretation rather than evidence.

Robin’s “overbearing significant others” line
Robin’s remark about “overbearing significant others” has also been read as a comment on her relationship. The line is ambiguous. It could refer to Vickie, to someone else in Robin’s life, or to no one in particular, and the show does not tie it to Vickie directly.

Netflix’s official finale explainer on Tudum states that Robin attends Smith College in Massachusetts and reunites with her friends. It describes her as staying close to Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan, who plan to meet regularly. The same coverage does not mention Vickie. Netflix’s series listing identifies Amybeth McNulty as Vickie and Maya Hawke as Robin, and confirms that Season 5 is the final season.

The table below separates what the finale establishes from what it leaves open.
| Question | What the finale or official material says | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Are Robin and Vickie together at the start of Season 5? | Yes, shown as a couple; Vickie learns about the Upside Down and helps protect Max | Established (Entertainment Weekly interview; the episodes) |
| Is Vickie shown or named in the 18-month epilogue? | No | Established |
| Where does Robin go after the finale? | Smith College in Massachusetts | Established (Netflix Tudum finale explainer) |
| Did Robin and Vickie break up? | Not stated | Open |
| Do Robin and Vickie stay together? | Not stated; Ross Duffer: “Maybe, maybe not” | Open |
| Where is Vickie after the finale? | Not stated | Open |
Viewers who want Vickie’s fate spelled out will not find it in the finale or in the creators’ comments. What the series gives is a clear picture of where Robin is headed and a deliberately unfinished thread about the relationship.
