Uma Thurman did not disappear after Kill Bill. She continued acting in films and television, taking roles in comedies, fantasy, drama and, eventually, another action film. Her own explanation for not following the success of Kill Bill with a string of similar parts is that she did not want to burn herself out in one genre.
Kill Bill was a milestone, not a final role
Thurman played the Bride in Quentin Tarantino’s two-part story, released in 2003 and 2004. The Cannes profile records her as an actress in Kill Bill Vol. 2, which played out of competition at the festival in 2004: Cannes profile.

Afterward, she kept working across different kinds of projects rather than building her screen career around a succession of Bride-like action roles. Her credits included the musical comedy The Producers (2005), the comedy My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006), the fantasy film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), television’s Smash, and the drama Burnt (2015). The range of formats and genres is the important part of the story: the available credits do not support the idea that she stopped acting or that her career ended after Tarantino’s films.
She earned an Emmy nomination for Smash
In 2012, Thurman was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for playing Rebecca Duvall on NBC’s Broadway-themed series Smash. It was a nomination, not a win. The Television Academy’s record is available at her Television Academy profile.

Why she did not keep making similar action films
Thurman addressed the expectation to repeat a successful genre performance in a 2025 Boston Globe interview about The Old Guard 2. She said she had noticed that after doing something well, actors can be asked to “burn yourself out in that genre.” The comment offers her own account of why she did not follow Kill Bill with a long run of similar action roles; it does not mean she rejected action permanently.
In the same interview, Thurman discussed returning to action in The Old Guard 2. The film marked a return to the genre after years in which her work had encompassed other kinds of roles. Read the interview at The Boston Globe.

Rotten Tomatoes’ filmography lists The King of Kings and Dexter: Resurrection among Thurman’s 2025 credits: Rotten Tomatoes filmography. That listing is a useful snapshot, not a definitive or complete record of every project through October 2026. It is safest to say that she continued to take screen roles, rather than infer a full career timeline from one filmography.

No. She continued acting in film and television, earned an Emmy nomination for Smash, and returned to action with The Old Guard 2. The apparent gap in action roles reflects a varied career and, by her own account, a reluctance to repeat one genre until it became exhausting—not an end to her work.
