What Happened to the Hotness on theCHIVE? A Look at the Evolution of a Cultural Phenomenon

Hotness is no longer a top-level theCHIVE section, but the evidence does not show a complete deletion. The story is one of login restrictions, redesign, and gradual absorption into broader categories.

TheCHIVE did not publicly document one definitive moment when “Hotness” was deleted. What changed was more gradual: beginning in 2021, Hotness galleries became login-restricted in the mobile apps; later, the site’s navigation and categories were reorganized; and today, “Hotness” is no longer a top-level section of theCHIVE.

The term has not vanished completely. The legacy theCHIVE Hotness archive tag remains live, as does an “end of hotness” tag. But the current site presents that material, where available, through broader lifestyle and entertainment categories, recurring galleries, archive pages, account controls, and the iCHIVE community rather than through a prominent “Hotness” button.

The short answer: Hotness was absorbed, restricted, and rebranded—not clearly abolished

For years, “Hotness” was one of the most recognizable parts of theCHIVE experience. The label referred to visually focused galleries featuring attractive models and other image-driven content, and it became part of the site’s wider internet identity alongside recurring formats such as Daily Afternoon Randomness and Daily Morning Awesomeness.

That recognizable destination is no longer present in the current desktop navigation. The site’s visible top-level choices now include sections such as Funny, Entertainment, Tech, Military, and Shop The Chivery, while the expanded navigation includes Lifestyle, Gaming, Outdoor, Sports, Favorites, Newsletter, the mobile apps, CHIVE Charities, CHIVE TV, and William Murray Golf. There is no current menu item labeled “Hotness.”

That absence is important, but it does not prove that every piece of Hotness content was removed. TheCHIVE’s own 2021 notices said that Hotness galleries still existed, although access was restricted for logged-in users on Android and iOS. The strongest evidence therefore points to an evolution in presentation and access—not a clearly announced, total shutdown.

Why the 2021 app changes mattered

The first clearly documented turning point came in March and April 2021, when theCHIVE addressed complaints about missing Hotness material in its mobile apps.

In an April 9, 2021 Android notice, theCHIVE explained that Android users were seeing fewer Hotness galleries because “all hotness content had to be login-locked” to comply with Android platform rules. The wording indicates that the content had not simply been erased; it had become conditional on signing in.

A month earlier, a March 12, 2021 iOS reminder said that DARs, DMAs, and Hotness galleries were still available in the app, but users had to be logged in because of what the post called “Apple-esque restrictions.”

These notices explain why longtime users could experience the change as a disappearance. Someone browsing anonymously—or using an app without an authenticated account—could see a noticeably different version of theCHIVE from the one remembered from earlier years.

Important limitation: those statements document the app situation in 2021. They do not establish that the same platform rules remain the exact cause of the current experience in 2026. The official notices do not provide a later, definitive explanation of the present-day app policy.

What the current theCHIVE interface shows

The current website is active and continues to publish content. Its observed homepage carries new posts dated August 5, 2026, and its footer identifies the copyright holder as Chive Media Group, LLC. In other words, the disappearance of a “Hotness” button should not be confused with the disappearance of theCHIVE itself.

The current homepage exposes three broad content filters:

  • All
  • Articles
  • Videos

The separate iCHIVE Dopamine Dump interface uses a somewhat different set of filters:

  • All
  • Articles
  • Galleries
  • Videos

Neither interface presents Hotness as a current top-level content filter. Instead, the site organizes its material under broader categories and recurring formats. The official About page describes a mix that includes funny photos and videos, DAR and DMA, charity stories, photography, drone and travel galleries, sports, gaming, technology, military, outdoor, entertainment, and human-interest stories. Hotness is not listed there as a standalone current category.

Where the identity moved

Much of what users may associate with the old visual-content culture now sits within a wider editorial system. Current navigation emphasizes categories such as Lifestyle, Humanity, Funny, and Entertainment. The site also continues to promote recurring gallery formats including:

  • Daily Morning Awesomeness
  • Daily Afternoon Randomness
  • Daily Evening Randomness
  • Weekend Morning Randomness
  • The Hunnies & Funnies Are Here to Play

The result is less a single branded “Hotness” destination and more a dispersed collection of visual posts and recurring series.

The archive tells a more complicated story

The word “Hotness” still exists in theCHIVE’s archive taxonomy. The live /tag/thechive-hotness/ page is headed “Posts Tagged: thechive hotness.” At the time of the current observation, it listed Zuck Wants Sunglasses, We Want Community, dated August 26, 2025, under the Lifestyle category.

A separate /tag/end-of-hotness/ page also remains available and lists the same August 26, 2025 post. This is evidence that the old vocabulary remains embedded in the site’s tagging system. It is not, by itself, evidence of an official decision to abolish Hotness.

That distinction matters because archive tags are not the same thing as navigation categories. A site can preserve old tags for search, historical organization, or legacy posts without making the term a current editorial brand. Conversely, a tag can remain active even after a section has stopped functioning as a prominent destination.

Was there an official “end of Hotness” announcement?

Based on the cited official material, no single formal shutdown announcement has been verified. The presence of the “end of hotness” tag should not be treated as a press release or corporate statement. Nor does the existence of a 2025 post carrying both Hotness-related tags establish that the content ended on that date.

The more defensible conclusion is chronological:

  1. Hotness was part of theCHIVE’s recognizable visual-content identity.
  2. In 2021, mobile access became login-gated. TheCHIVE explicitly said Hotness galleries remained available but required users to sign in on Android and iOS.
  3. The site later changed how it organized content. Broader categories, recurring galleries, account systems, and the iCHIVE community became more prominent.
  4. Today, Hotness is not a top-level navigation section. The term survives in legacy archive paths and appears to have been folded into a wider content ecosystem rather than maintained as a main destination.

This explains why two apparently contradictory statements can both be true: “Hotness content was not simply deleted” and “Hotness is no longer a normal section of the site.”

The role of login and iCHIVE

Account access is now more central to theCHIVE experience than it was for anonymous browsing. The current site displays both SUBSCRIBE and Login. The login link leads to i.thechive.com, where users can sign in with Google, Facebook, or Apple ID, or use an email-and-password account. The interface also includes “Keep me logged in” and “Forgot Password” controls.

That does not guarantee that logging in will restore an old Hotness section. It simply reflects the documented history: access restrictions were a major part of the 2021 mobile change, while the current site no longer advertises Hotness as a dedicated category.

For users trying to understand the present structure, iCHIVE is particularly significant. In an August 24, 2023 announcement, theCHIVE described a substantial iCHIVE platform and performance update, with features being introduced incrementally and glitches expected during the rollout. The announcement presented iCHIVE as a place where users could upvote submissions, comment, submit content, and accumulate points toward merchandise discounts.

The current iCHIVE interface includes Upload, Profile, Categories, Newsletter, Submit, and Advertise. Its category list includes humanity, humor, entertainment, gaming, lifestyle, military, outdoor, sports, DAR, DMA, and tech. Again, the structure is broad and community-oriented; Hotness is not shown as a dedicated current category in the observed interface.

A frustrating submission-path detail

TheCHIVE still says that users can submit photos and videos, and iCHIVE continues to be described as a community platform. However, the public Submit control is not currently a dependable route to a dedicated submission form. In the observed web interface, the visible control resolves to theCHIVE’s main site rather than opening a clearly separate public submission page.

This is a small but revealing example of the broader transition. TheCHIVE’s current ecosystem combines editorial categories, community features, account requirements, and legacy archive structures. Not every old label maps neatly onto one current page.

Why people remember Hotness as a separate phenomenon

“Hotness” was more than a tag. It functioned as a recognizable cultural signal within theCHIVE’s brand: a predictable type of gallery, a reason to return, and a shorthand shared by longtime readers. Its importance came from repetition and visibility. A named section is easier to remember than a post that appears occasionally inside a broad Lifestyle or Entertainment feed.

The change also reflects a larger internet pattern. Websites that began as relatively open, anonymous collections of images have increasingly had to balance:

  • mobile-platform rules and app-store requirements;
  • account and age-access controls;
  • advertising and brand-safety concerns;
  • user submissions and moderation;
  • community features such as voting and commenting;
  • multiple media formats, including articles, videos, and galleries.

As those pressures grow, a narrowly branded section can be harder to maintain than a flexible category system. TheCHIVE’s evolution from a site organized around recognizable recurring content toward a broader lifestyle and community brand helps explain why the old label became less visible even without a documented deletion event.

How to look for related material now

If you are trying to find the kind of visual content historically associated with Hotness, there is no verified current “Hotness” button to click. A practical search strategy is:

  1. Check the current homepage categories. Lifestyle, Entertainment, Funny, and related sections are more relevant starting points than searching the navigation for Hotness.
  2. Use the archive tag. The theCHIVE Hotness tag page remains live and is the clearest official route to posts carrying that legacy label.
  3. Try the iCHIVE Dopamine Dump. Its Galleries and Videos filters may surface visual material that is no longer grouped under an old branded section.
  4. Sign in if using the app or account-controlled features. TheCHIVE’s official 2021 notices specifically documented login requirements for Hotness galleries on mobile platforms.
  5. Do not assume that an old link or tag represents a current channel. Archive taxonomy can persist after the navigation and editorial structure have changed.

Because the current public pages do not provide a definitive 2026 statement about app-specific Hotness access, results may differ between desktop, iOS, Android, and logged-in sessions.

What happened, in one timeline

Period What the evidence shows Why it matters
Before 2021 Hotness was widely recognized as a recurring theCHIVE content identity. It became part of the site’s cultural memory and user expectations.
March 2021 TheCHIVE said iOS users had to log in to view DARs/DMAs and Hotness galleries. Mobile users could interpret restricted access as missing content.
April 2021 TheCHIVE said Android Hotness content had to be login-locked because of platform rules. The site documented restriction, not total deletion.
August 2023 TheCHIVE announced a major iCHIVE platform and performance update. Community interaction, submissions, voting, and profiles became more central.
2025–2026 Hotness-related archive tags remain live, while current navigation uses broader categories and no Hotness button. The old label survives as archive taxonomy but not as a top-level section.

The most accurate conclusion

TheCHIVE’s Hotness did not disappear in a single, publicly documented event. Its visibility was reduced by login-gated mobile access beginning in 2021, then further diluted by changes to the site’s categories, navigation, and community platform. The current site remains active, but it no longer treats Hotness as a main destination.

So the answer depends on what “gone” means. If it means “there is no longer a Hotness button in the main navigation,” that is correct. If it means “theCHIVE formally deleted every Hotness gallery,” the available official evidence does not support that claim. The surviving archive tags and the 2021 notices point instead to a familiar internet phenomenon: a once-distinctive feature can remain in fragments while its original brand identity is absorbed into a larger, more carefully controlled platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Did theCHIVE completely remove Hotness content?

The available official evidence does not establish a complete deletion. In 2021, theCHIVE said Hotness galleries still existed but were login-restricted in its Android and iOS apps. Today, Hotness is no longer a top-level navigation section, although related archive tags remain live.

Where is Hotness on theCHIVE now?

There is no verified current Hotness button or main navigation section. The legacy theCHIVE Hotness archive tag remains available, while current visual content is organized through broader categories, recurring galleries, and iCHIVE.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Did a 2025 announcement officially end Hotness?

No formal shutdown announcement or specific end date is established by the cited official pages. A 2025 post appears under both Hotness-related archive tags, but tags alone do not prove that the feature was officially abolished.

Do I need an account to access theCHIVE?

Not every current website feature is necessarily account-gated, but the site provides login controls through i.thechive.com, and its 2021 notices specifically said users had to be logged in to view Hotness galleries in the mobile apps. Current app behavior may differ because those notices describe the 2021 situation.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Hotness was not conclusively deleted; it was restricted on mobile in 2021 and gradually lost its status as a standalone destination as theCHIVE reorganized around broader categories, recurring galleries, and iCHIVE community features. The name survives in archive tags, but the old main-navigation experience does not.
