Public reporting identifies Simran Bhogal as the person who impersonated Bobby Jandu and other fabricated identities in the deception involving her cousin, Kirat Assi. After Assi confronted the real Bobby, Bhogal reportedly confessed; Assi later obtained a civil settlement. Bhogal did not participate in Netflix’s 2024 documentary, and the available reporting does not establish where she lives or what she is doing now. The civil settlement was not a criminal conviction, and the sources cited here do not establish a final criminal-case outcome.
What happened to Simran Bhogal after Sweet Bobby?
The Guardian reported in 2022 that, after Kirat Assi confronted the real Bobby Jandu and reported the deception to police, Bhogal confessed the next day, saying she had been Bobby and the other characters. The deception had lasted about eight years, according to the Guardian’s account.
Assi pursued a civil claim concerning harassment, misuse of private information and data-protection breaches, and received a settlement, the Guardian reported. That outcome belongs to the civil proceedings; it should not be described as a criminal conviction. The same report said Assi was challenging police decisions concerning coercive control, stalking and harassment. Those were matters in Assi’s position and the police response, not findings of a criminal court. Read The Guardian’s 2022 account.
What did Simran Bhogal say about the Netflix documentary?
Bhogal did not take part in an interview for Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare, the Netflix documentary released in 2024. A RadioTimes search-result summary reported that Bhogal considered the matter private and objected to what she called unfounded and damaging accusations. That response is available here only through RadioTimes’ summary, so it should be treated as a reported statement rather than a direct interview or independently verified account.

What happened to Kirat Assi after the deception?
Assi described recovery as a gradual process in interviews published in 2024. Speaking to British GQ, she recounted receiving emergency counselling, later being told she had PTSD, undergoing psychotherapy, returning to work and trying to reconnect with friends and social networks. These are Assi’s accounts of her experience, not an independent clinical assessment. Read British GQ’s interview.
In the same October, British GQ reported Assi’s account that the police case had reopened after the podcast. Netflix Tudum also reported her hope that telling her story could help others, alongside her wish to continue working in media, arts and marketing.
