Why did Naomi leave WWE?
On May 16, 2022, Naomi and Sasha Banks left the arena during Raw. WWE’s contemporaneous statement, reproduced by Wrestling Inc., said the pair had placed their women’s tag team championship belts in John Laurinaitis’s office before leaving. The company said they did not feel respected as tag team champions and were uncomfortable working with two scheduled opponents.
Those details describe WWE’s account of the incident, not an independent finding or Naomi’s complete explanation. In a later reflection, Naomi described the decision in personal terms: she said she needed to stand up for herself “not as Naomi, but as Trinity.” Fightful reported the remark from her discussion with Stephanie McMahon in WWE: Unreal season 2 and credited the transcription to its reporting: Fightful’s January 20, 2026 report.
The two accounts offer different kinds of context. WWE’s statement records the company’s position at the time; Naomi’s later comments explain her own emotions and perspective. Neither account, by itself, settles every disputed detail or establishes all the factors behind her departure.

What did Naomi say about her time away?
In a separate retrospective interview in 2025, Naomi said she initially thought she might not wrestle again. She used the time away to reconsider what she wanted next and also underwent shoulder surgery while she was away. These are her personal reflections; they do not provide a complete medical or contractual explanation for the full period away from WWE. What has happened in Naomi’s WWE career since?
WWE’s career profile lists Naomi’s 2025 Money in the Bank victory and says she won the Women’s World Title at WWE Evolution. Those later accomplishments show that the absence was a past chapter in her career, rather than a current absence according to WWE’s own account.
