Color Me Badd rose from Oklahoma City to early-1990s pop and R&B success, then its original four-member group disbanded in 1998. The members’ paths diverged, with later departures and returns; the group’s current official history identifies founding member Mark Calderon as the only original member continuing under the name. The group still has an official web presence, but its full current lineup and tour schedule are not established by the available official pages.
How Color Me Badd became a hit group
Color Me Badd formed in Oklahoma City in 1985. Its founding members were Mark Calderon, Bryan Abrams, Sam Waters and Kevin Thornton. The group described its sound as “hip-hop doo-wop,” combining four-part pop-soul harmonies with hip-hop influence. Color Me Badd’s official history credits the group with more than 12 million records sold worldwide, two No. 1 singles, nine Top 40 hits and a triple-platinum album; it does not date these summary figures.
The group’s best-known early-1990s singles included “I Wanna Sex You Up,” “I Adore, Mi Amor” and “All 4 Love.” According to the band’s official history, “I Wanna Sex You Up” reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the US R&B chart, while “I Adore, Mi Amor” and “All 4 Love” reached No. 1 on the Hot 100. The site also reports two Grammy nominations, two Soul Train Music Awards and one American Music Award, without dating those counts.
The 1991 album C.M.B. was central to the group’s breakthrough. Color Me Badd’s official history also says its music appeared in New Jack City, Mo’ Money, No Strings Attached and Glee, and that the members appeared as themselves in a 1992 episode of Beverly Hills, 90210.

Why the original group broke up
The group’s official history says Color Me Badd disbanded in 1998 after releasing Awakening. It describes subsequent membership changes as a longer process rather than a single permanent split:
- Sam Waters left in 1998.
- Kevin Thornton initially left in 1998, returned in 2010 and permanently resigned in 2016.
- Bryan Abrams left in 2020 following a federal lawsuit, according to the group’s history.
These dates and explanations reflect the group’s account. They do not, by themselves, establish the full circumstances or outcome of every dispute.

What the reported legal dispute establishes—and what it does not
A 2015 Courthouse News Service report described a complaint by Thornton against Abrams and Calderon. The report said Thornton alleged disputes over Abrams’s return to the group, his exclusion from its business entity and concerns about past substance-abuse issues. Those were allegations in a complaint, not court findings. The available report does not establish a final ruling or resolution.

Color Me Badd’s official history identifies Calderon as the only remaining original member continuing the group’s legacy. It says, “The group is now owned and fronted by Mark Calderon, an original founding member, and Color Me Badd continues to bring their hit songs as well as new music to the entire world.” The group’s official website also provides a booking and management contact.

That establishes an ongoing official presence under the Color Me Badd name, but not a complete current performing lineup or a dated tour schedule. Check the group’s official channels for current concert information rather than assuming that every original member is involved.
