Kate Middleton, now known as Catherine, Princess of Wales, hosted the third annual Together at Christmas service at Westminster Abbey on Friday, 8 December 2023. The service celebrated people supporting babies, young children and families, with music, readings and a focus on the importance of nurturing environments in early childhood.
When and where was the service?
The 2023 service took place at Westminster Abbey on Friday, 8 December. It was the third year of Together at Christmas, a service spearheaded by the Princess of Wales with support from The Royal Foundation. The Royal Family’s account of the inaugural service documents its 2021 beginning: The Royal Family: inaugural Together at Christmas service. Westminster Abbey’s event report confirms the date and venue: Westminster Abbey: Together at Christmas 2023.
What was the service about?
The 2023 service recognised people who support children and families in communities across the UK. Its theme centred on the value of supportive, nurturing environments during early childhood, and connected with the Princess of Wales’s Shaping Us campaign. The congregation included midwives, health visitors, nursery teachers, volunteers and families who had experienced a challenging year. The Abbey’s order of service also records that twelve community carol services took place around the UK, hosted by Lord-Lieutenants and supported by The Royal Foundation.
Who attended and took part?
The Prince and Princess of Wales attended with their children. The service was led by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle. The Abbey Choir sang during the service, alongside guest performers:
