Tyler Boebert was arrested in Rifle, Colorado, on February 27, 2024, in connection with a series of alleged vehicle trespasses and thefts. The arrest charges were not the final outcome: in October 2024, he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted identity theft, and the other charges were dismissed under a plea agreement. A later report said a complaint seeking revocation of his deferred judgment had been filed, but its outcome has not been verified here.

Why was Tyler Boebert arrested?

Rifle police arrested Boebert, then 18, on February 27, 2024. Police connected him to what they described as a recent string of vehicle trespasses and property thefts. Colorado Public Radio reported that investigators believed credit cards and identity documents had been taken from vehicles. The initial charges were allegations, not findings of guilt. Colorado Public Radio’s February 28, 2024 report described the arrest and investigation.

Initial coverage commonly summarized the case as involving 22 charges, including multiple felonies and more than 15 misdemeanor or petty-offense counts. News accounts differ in how they describe the component counts, so that total should be understood as a contemporaneous summary rather than a definitive breakdown of the court record. CPR reported that investigators used financial records and gas-station video to identify suspects; the affidavit was heavily redacted because minors were involved.

Reported investigation details

CPR reported that a card was used in an attempted $717 online purchase at Shein, but the attempted charge was denied. At Boebert’s first court appearance, his bond was reported as $1,250. These are details reported about this case, not findings that resolve the allegations or measures of theft more broadly.

What was the outcome of the 2024 case?

At a hearing on October 10, 2024, Boebert pleaded guilty to one count of attempted identity theft. Under the agreement, the remaining charges were dismissed. Judge John Neiley imposed a two-year deferred judgment and ordered 80 hours of community service, according to Courthouse News Service’s October 10, 2024 report.

A deferred judgment is conditional; it is not accurate to describe the original set of arrest charges as convictions. Courthouse News reported that successful completion of the deferred judgment would provide a path to avoiding a felony conviction. Judge Neiley told Boebert: “You were 18 when you committed this offense. You have no prior criminal history, and this is an opportunity you should not squander.”

What is known about the later revocation complaint?

In an August 2026 update, Colorado Public Radio reported that a probation-revocation complaint had been filed in the 2024 case and that a hearing was scheduled for September 10, 2026. That date has passed, but the outcome is not established here. It would be premature to say the hearing occurred, that the deferred judgment was revoked, or that Boebert completed it without a current court record or a later reliable report. CPR’s August 10, 2026 update reported the complaint and scheduled date.

The Colorado Judicial Branch says its Garfield County public docket search contains only one week of data, which limits its ability to confirm older events.

Are the 2026 charges part of the theft case?

No. CPR’s August 2026 report also described separate felony charges based on allegations involving sexually explicit material and minors, including allegations of sexual exploitation of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Those are allegations in a separate matter, not part of the 2024 theft case, and should not be presented as established facts without a verified disposition.
