What did Lauryn Hill perform?
Hill’s appearance was a surprise. She spoke about Flack, then performed “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” She followed it with “Killing Me Softly with His Song,” joined by Wyclef Jean of the Fugees. Stevie Wonder accompanied the latter performance on harmonica.
Hill said at the service, “Her existence was a form of resistance.”

After his harmonica contribution to Hill and Jean’s performance, Wonder offered a separate two-song tribute. He sang “If It’s Magic,” accompanied by a harpist, then performed “I Can See the Sun in Late December,” which the AP reported he wrote for Flack.
Wonder also spoke about Flack, saying, “The great thing about not having the ability to see with your eyes is the great opportunity of being able to even better see with your heart.”

Other tributes and the memorial livestream
The service included tributes beyond the performances by Hill, Jean and Wonder. The Rev. Al Sharpton said Flack “put a soundtrack to Black dignity,” according to the AP report. The printed program also included a remembrance from Flack: “Remember: Always walk in the light,” Flack once said. “If you feel like you’re not walking in it, go find it. Love the Light.”
The AP reported that the service was livestreamed at RobertaFlack.com and on YouTube. That report establishes the livestream at the time of the memorial, not whether a replay is available now.
