On Feb. 11, 2025, Grimes said she had not seen Elon Musk’s Oval Office appearance with their four-year-old son until someone alerted her. In a reply on X, she wrote: “He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”
What happened at the Oval Office
Musk appeared with his and Grimes’s son, X Æ A-Xii, during an Oval Office event with President Donald Trump on Feb. 11, 2025. Trump was signing executive orders, while Musk spoke to reporters about plans for his Department of Government Efficiency team, according to ABC News and E! News. The child, commonly called X, was four at the time, contemporaneous coverage reported.
Grimes’s response
Later that day, Grimes replied on X to a comment praising her son’s behavior. ABC News quoted her response: “He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”
Her post said she had not seen the appearance and thanked the person who brought it to her attention. It expressed concern about her son being in public while also acknowledging that he had been polite. It was a reply, not a separate statement detailing the circumstances of how the appearance was arranged.

How she later explained her concern
In a later TIME interview, Grimes said she wanted people to stop posting images of her child. She connected that concern to the idea that fame should not be imposed on someone who has not chosen it, saying: “I think fame is something you should consent to.”
That interview offers context for her objection: her comments focused on her child’s public exposure and privacy. The cited accounts do not establish details about private custody arrangements or what Musk knew about Grimes’s awareness of the appearance.
